Thread: How to create jobs opportunities for yourself?

  1. #1

Default How to create jobs opportunities for yourself?

By studying more? By sacrificing more then FTs like lower pay, little leaves, more OTs and less claim?

Or simply do not get married and only married to the jobs?

How about learning more upgrading skills? Like to be an make up artist to do part times? Or be a weekend property agents?

Whatever it is, you gotta keep on moving for yourself, do not stay as it is, the worlds goes round faster then you think.

Do not complain about this and that, create your own opportunities.

By complaining about FT, FW, Govt... while sitting on my a**,watching my wrist goes sideway.... at the same time, demanding I get help/money/job/house/etc or I won't vote for this or that.

How do you create your own opportunities when the society is this way? Upgrade, is there any use? Let's say, you take a course to upgrade, who is willing to hire you because you lack relevant working experience. I thought I could get a job in the area that I want to upgrade in and then pursue a course in it but no one wants to open the door for me to try that line of work. How can you be sure that someone will hire you if you get the cert for that type of work? Upgrading requires cash, how to take a course when funds are limited? Be a property agent, rules are changing and you also need quite a bit of money to get started too. Part-time work - say: work as a sales asst, they are all hiring below 35. What else can you do? Sacrifice pay- how far down the salary scale do you want to go? It may not be enough for your daily expenses. Besides, when you switch jobs, the next job the pay will drop even further.

To be property agent is not as easy as it looks. Do you know you need to attend "courses" before you even start selling. Yes all the agencies now make you go for costs that cost 900 over bucks and you have to regularly go for courses. So the agency is sucking you before you even sell your first property.

It is not as abc as it looks....

Take it from me, I learned it the hard way!

When your deciding which agency to join, go around asking them how much is their joining fee.
Usually the bigger more established agencies will cost you around $800 - $1k+ to join, but if you go for the smaller lesser known agencies you probably need to pay like $400+ or even lesser.
The funny thing is when you join any property agency the money you pay largely goes to the agency and the recruiting manager as referral fees. What you probably get is just a lanyard and some namecards.
I can tell you this, you are pretty much on your own when you are a newbie. You need to find your own buyers, sellers and property listings. The agency or your manager probably won't even remember your name after 1 week.

So choose wisely before you make that commitment.

Yes glad you know what I am talking about. I got friends who are manager and are always asking me to "join my team, empower yourself" So I ask more and it is all about the monies they earn from recruiting. If I am not wrong, some agencies work like a MLM system in which the team leaders get a cut of their team member's commission. Any property agent here that can clarify if this is true?

Different people, different choices and options. We can only decide on what's best at the given point in time. The world is always evolving, and if we don't....we get screwed. Like that saying goes: "If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem."

Agree. I was in those shoes a decade ago during the crisis. Was with one of the firms for 4 months. Basically you pay for the course, you pay for your own biz cards, find your own lobang and pay for your own ads, etc. And yes, they won't event remember your name. And when I stopped going to the office, they probably don't even know I was absent. It was not my cup of tea. In this industry, it is not who you know but who knows you that matters. Being a newbie, I of course knew nothing. And nothing worked out.

I have nothing against the profession, I just wish to bring an awareness to those who wants to be an agent to know what they are paying these agencies for. And I can honestly say I paid them for nothing.
If I can pay lesser and still qualify to be a property agent then why should I pay that extra amount into other people's pocket, since the nature of the profession is basically a solo act.

lot of things are not as simple as they seem. you have to look at it on a different angle, not just look straight.

if you dont understand what I'm trying to say, don't bother. not many people can comprehend what is the situation right now.
    Objection !!!

well, there various ways like what others have mentioned...

personally, sometimes I find it strange to hear sporean complain abt high cost etc, when alot of foreigners are doing ok with what they have in the same country... seem that we can't even survive in our own country yet other ppl can...

But guess each has their own standard of living....

Other people support 1 person (themselves here). They support their families who are back home in their own country. That's why they can cope. We can't because we don't have our families in those countries where costs of living are significantly cheaper in terms of SGD.
