    The method :

    Step one.
You buy this fan thingy. I got it from sentosa. Basically any kind of gadget which rotates and gives out light will do. I have seen plenty of fans on the market too, but it helps if you have a variety of colors. This one does.

    So buy this first.

    Step two.
Your camera shutter can vary from 1/2.5 s and lower.
Anything faster than 1/2.5 and you can clearly see the fan's plastic blades(at least..I did). So basically, to achieve a nice circle, set your fan up at 1/2.5s minimum.
Also, the exposure, I have increased it only for the purpose of this tutorial...the background is supposed to be black. Meter your scene accordingly.

    Step 3
Move your fan close to the lens, focus the image. Your camera is set to 1/2.5 sec minimum. Trip the shutter and at the same time move the fan away from the lens. Viola.
Usually I prefer a 2 second shutter for this one.
Also, use a tripod and a wireless shutter release if possible. Or get someone to help you out.
Either way, if you try doing it yourself without using a tripod, well..you see the results in this pic...it was taken handheld. Not too pretty.

Thats it. Thats how its done. To make things more interesting, you can add multiple fans, decrease the shutter speed even more and have a good psychedelic effect. Let the experiments begin!
