FREE NEWSPAPER is not a waste of money! It is a good way of circulating news, via print.
As what some said, advertisements are printed on it. It's advertisers' choice to use this as a way of publicity.

Newspapers to be folded? Er.. If you do designing, you will notice that the text are printed in columns so that people can fold and read it paragraph by paragraph. It is the reader's preference.

But come to think of why you dislike such things to much.. Hmm..
You always cannot get the newspaper every morning and need to buy newspaper?

*no offence.* Just sharing my thoughts.
Its strange you say no offence, when the tone of you message is pretty

I have no problem with people reading on the train, but when u see that it gets crowded, please stop reading it. And, dont just read TODAY everyday, have the occasional look at international papers to get a feel of what the world is like out that.

I'm not an environmentalist, so I dont know for sure how damaging this endless supply of free newspaper actually is. But the resources being allocated to produce these endless papers daily itself scares me. I guess every bit counts when it comes to sustaining the planet for future generations. At this rate, its gonna blow up within the next few generations, and thats just selfish I think.

That being said, I do like reading the papers, and I do not advocate stopping newsprint completely, but being circulated freely to people who can afford buying them, in my opinion, creates too much social cost. Just my 2 cents mate.

Can afford does not mean will buy. The idea of free papers is good - if you were to blame anything, it's the people who spread their arms out wide when reading the papers.

Sorry if my tone wasn't that good. I apologise for that.

Actually, they should make the electronic version free and the printed version at a nominal cost. that will encourage less paper use and is good for the environment.

Would be great if ST can do the same.

btw, it's not good for the eye to read articles on a moving platform like the MRT..

No wonder the lasik clinics are enjoying a roaring business.....

    OT Post

A Singaporean was on holiday in Malaysia..

He was having his coffee, croissants, bread, butter & jam at the
    hotel's coffee house.

A Malaysian man who was chewing gum, sat down next to him &
    started a casual conversation.
Malaysian : "You Singaporeans eat the whole bread?"
    Singaporean : "Of course."
Malaysian : "We don't. In Malaysia, we only eat what's inside.
The crusts we collect in a container, recycle it, transform them into
croissants & sell them across to Singapore."
The Malaysian then had a smirk on his face while the Singaporean
    listened in silence.
Malaysian : "Do you eat the jam with the bread?"
    Singaporean : "Of course."
Malaysian (chuckling): "We don't. In Malaysia, we eat fresh fruit for
breakfast, then we put all the peels, seeds & other left-overs in a
container, recycle them, transform them into jam,..... before we sell
    it across to Singapore."
This time, the Singaporean retorted : "Do you have sex in Malaysia?"
Malaysian : "Why, of course we do"
Singaporean : "Do you wear protection"
Malaysian : "Of course! We wear condoms."
Singaporean : "And what do you do with the condoms once you've used them?"
Malaysian : "Stupid question ! Of course we throw them away."
Singaporean : "We don't. In Singapore, the government secretly puts
them in a container, recycle them, melt them down into chewing gum &
sell them across to Malaysia,... & that's the real reason why we
    banned chewing gum in Singapore."
