A budget would help us give suggestions. If budget low we can suggest older models. But judging by your thread title, your budget is quite high?

if you cannot wait for the arrival of D7k, then it will be 60D . . .

You need to feel the 2 cameras and make your own decision . . . as seen from your title, we believe that your buying power is there.

    Both are good cameras.

d7000 hasn't arrived. even if it does it's expected to fly off the shelves quite quickly. you may also want to know that there are other good choices beyond d7000 and 60d. depends on what you need, how you like the feel, etc.

    then i doubt D7k will be within your budget . . . .

Please also factor in other things that you need to buy as well . . .
    such as :
    1 dry cabinet
    2 bag
    3 tripod
    4 filters
    5 . . .

Please search in clubsnap for recommendation . . .

Agree that 1.7K might not be enough. Let's say the most basic is a D7000 kit with a dry cabinet. It would cost more than that.

If you don't mind forking out an additional 200+ I would recommend you get the pentax k-5, Build wise would defiantly be better than d7000 and 60d. K-5 ISO is also a huge improvement over the k-7.

Yeah, but the K-5 and D7000 use the same Sony A580/A55 sensor. Lots of choices.

I think $1.7k is just enough for the D7000 body...exclude lens.

It is one thing to buy a camera.... it is quite another to buy into a "camera system". Once you buy into a camera system it is more difficult to switch brands due to the investment one makes in the purchase of camera body, lenses and accessories. Make sure that you thoroughly investigate lenses and accessories and not just bodies. Lenses and accessories generally last longer than the camera body itself and are quite an investment in themselves.

When I initially ventured to buy my first camera, I was intent on buying a Nikon, but somehow the salesperson convinced me to buy Canon. I've been a Canon person ever since. Over the years I've accumulated many lenses and accessories and couldn't possibly consider another brand now as I've invested too much.

Bottom line... do your research thoroughly!

The Pentax K5 fits the bill quite well. It was launched late in September at Photokina this year, and has just reached Singapore. In fact Singapore is one of the lucky places to get it so soon, before many places in the US in fact.

    Key features
    ------------
    1. 16.2MP sensor
    2. ISO 80-51200
    3. 1080HD video
    4. Full magnesium alloy body
    5. Weather sealing
    6. Built in shake reduction system (SR)
    7. HDR (with self align feature)
    8. 7fps burst

Cameras may use the same sensor, but how each camera manufacturer decides to construct and process the sensor data can be different.
The user review is a good showcase of what the camera can do.

    Gd luck

    The actual spelling is Semi-pro

So what do you intend to shoot, to require a semi-pro camera. Maybe if you state your needs, we can show you the way better.
