Default Same sensor but are they the same?

We see that some camera uses the same sensor with the higher end model. But are they of the same grade?

Same sensors but maybe the top 10% which pass the most stringent specification test go to higher end camera and the lower grade go to lower end models?

    Just my guess.

your guess is as good as mine, unless you work in one of the camera manufacturers....

anyway, just wondering what is the point of your statement? Just thinking out loud?

Just something come to my mind that there could be more to what we read from published specifications.

I mean... you do have a point.

But having seen how semiconductor chips are mass-produced, it wouldn't really be cost effective to QC every single one, and then pick the best 10% (based on what criteria) and filter them off to the 'high-end' batch.

My friend told me that Nikon cam selling in Japan, quality are better than those selling outside Japan. Not sure if true?

oh boy, thats a really conspiracy..

cameras are much more than just their sensors..

i think if they can do so with CPUs, they can easily duplicate QC process for sensors.

Anyway, imo, sensors are only one of the many forumlas that make up a good body.

    It's possible.

For a product, they can go thru 100% inspection for some parameters. And there may be 2 passing spec. Those pass the stricter spec goes to Class A, those that didn't pass stricter spec but pass lower spec goes to class B. Those that didn't pass any are rejects.

So it is indeed possible to screen products that pass, and those that pass with "merit"....

Using motors as example, the better ones maybe run on lower current, and the not so good ones draws higher current, but within passing spec.

They may use the same sensor, but there will be differences in the image processing engine and other supporting circuitry.

I agree. The sensor sued may be similar across various models.
But different cameras indeed process photos differently.

there are differences la... of course.

things like 14 bit versus 12 bit color depth also make a difference.

Please lah, anything made anywhere can break one day. I bought a brandnew D700 in Japan and the shutter was not working the moment I took it out of the box........luckily I was still in japan for another week, so they repaired it for me within a few days

Maybe you open the box from the bottom?

I've got this from the highest authorities of leading camera manufactures.

All sensors are the same and made by a factory in Southern China.

The only difference is they make the camera bodies different.

Many are made or assembled in China!
