You don't say! I have F70, the rear backing are melting away as we speak... Cheapo SLR, but I still hope to take it out for spin one of these days... go the old "blind" way...

Btw, do you have any experience in taking out the focus screen of older Nikon SLRs? I wanna give my F70's F screen a good "scrub down" from the fungus...

Share a couple more pics of old classic gear...

    The ultra-classic F2as + Nikkor PC 28/3.5

    The pro F4 + 24-120 AF-D

Nikon 35Ti and Contax T2 PnS. Very retro look with dials on the top.

I take in and out a lot. The modern ones like D300s are a lot harder to handle. Old film cameras are made to let user self-service the screens. Fungus infected screen is as good as a gonner. Very hard to clean focusing screens. Might as well buy a new one and replace. Buy compatible ones, no need to get original Nikon. Cheap cheap. Should cost less 80.

Really?? Good as gone eh? Nevermind, I'll try to give one a good scrub before getting a replacement. Replacement screen can be gotten any reputable Cam shop, or must I go ask those SLR docs?

Any store should have it. Just hope they stock it. Maybe try OP first. See if they can custom order one it. I am very sure I should be able to get one in China. Film is still very big in China.

    Not me. My dad.

I just went with Nikon, so I can use all his lenses.

But nowadays, I seldom do. I use my lenses more. He is the one pushing me to get the D700 but in the end I still got the D300s. LOL.

Actually, our family has several sytems. Funny thing is, we never had Canon. Only one Canon digital ixus. My dad did not go for Canon because back then, when EOS first came out, he said the AF motor in EOS was in the lens. Fast but expensive and more prone to failure... This was back in the day when film EOS just came out. LOL.

My dad had some contax SLRs, which he sold. Also a Pentax SLR which he sold, I think. Now what he has now are stuff he really wanted to keep. And only kept everything that is still mint or acquired new. At one point I think he had twice the amount of gear.

We also had the first ever true AF SLR system, the Minolta Dynax 7000. The lenses and camera body were given to my brother who used it for several years. Afterwhich he returned to my dad when he switched to digital. My dad then gave the entire set to my cousin. I am very sure that set included several famous lenses, including the beer can. If we kept it, I might had gone Sony Alpha route. LOL.

Most of my dad's photos got destroyed by mold and fungus. My dad is more happy nowadays carrying a superzoom compact point and shoot. I guess back in the day zoom is a wonderful new thing and very expensive. Now he says, "waaaa so small but I can have 10x zoom. So shiok". But his eye for composition is still damn power.

And yes he had his own dark room also. He was even doing color developing for a while. everything got stored away, when we were born. And when I was like 6 or 7, during one spring cleaning, we helped him clear out the cupboards and junked all his darkroom equipment.

Actually film is fun. I am thinking of a poison session for old classic film cameras...

Some of these cameras are still available in the 2nd hand market, Saw a F2 going for slightly over $2.5k

    LOL.

There is a reason both me and my dad has a 180L dry cab each. Both packed to the brim. His is, of course, a lot more packed than mine.

Bro, one day we bring out film cams and go shoot film. It is fun. And it will train us very hard. Make us think before every shot. And the joy of waiting for a few days before seeing our result.

We should just buy china films at $3 a roll.. Lucky film from shanghai.
