Default How to determine contrast grade in MG papers

Hi,

Was wondering what is the method used by the members here to determine the contrast grade in MG B&W photo papers. So far I have been doing it on a trial and error method....using the M and Y dials on the colorhead and the literature given in the Ilford papers.

This method waste a lot of paper in determining the right grade to use.

Have also heard that there are practioners using split grade printing. Am interested in finding how this is done. Any imput is appreciated.

Thanks.
