Okay, some friends asked me to do some long time exposure test. Just now I took two shots at ISO100 in B mode, one (192s) w/ noise reduction turned ON, and one (189s) turned OFF. The one w/ NR ON took equal time to remove the noise after the shot is taken, the other one don't have this delay. File format set to RAW+, and RAW is in PEF format.

Well, I didn't expect all photos look quite the same, w/ NR turned ON or OFF.

wow.It looked like the sensor is so quiet that NR on and off does not seem to have much impact.

    FW,

Does the DFA 100 work better with the K-5? The DFA 100 is annoying if it does not nail the focus correctly on the first try...

    Fengwei,

Currently I have the SMC K 35f2 and 135f2.5. When I choose to buy the K5, I will need a 50mm and an 85mm, both f1.4 if possible. Since it's more difficult to adapt my Contax Zeiss lenses, I may sell them off for native Pentax lenses. Which 50 and 85 will you recommend?

Well, it's a macro lens, and it has very long focusing throw, so even on K5 its AF won't be fast. And if it misfocus, it's gonna go a full round to come back and focus again. The lens is meant for macro work, AF is really just a big plus to me

Wow! So you are getting a K5 too? That's great!

If you are looking at 50 and 85, nothing beats A50/1.2 and A*85/1.4. But if you can live with a 50/1.4, then go for the A50/1.4. I know you like to use manual lenses, that's why I only suggest these. Otherwise the Pentax FA*85/1.4 and DA*55/1.4 are excellent choices too.

Good luck, and hope you'd really join our Pentax family soon

I noticed in K7 picture review screen (i.e. playback), the picture will auto rotate with the orientation of the camera just like the camera setting info but in K-5 it is now static, i.e. if you select in setup to auto rotate then the review screen for portrait shot will be rotated 90 deg automatically, other than that the screen will not auto rotate when you rotate the orientation of the camera. I missed this feature from K7.

sorry, what do you mean? i am a bit confused, since i do not have the k-7.

do you mean that when you rotate the camera, then the picture will adjust based on orientation?

the k20d doesn't have this feature, what it does have is that the picture will come out vertical when it was shot in portrait format, that's all...

it really won't make a difference with the newer dslrs, since k20d time, it should have been allowed to be off............

i suspect with 15 minutes onwards you might want to do so... but for exposures less than 4 minutes (which is really more than enough), i doubt you would need the black frame subtraction....

just came back from Japan last night and had a chance to play the the k5 with the 18-135 WR lens at Pentax Square in Shinjuku on the 14th (day before JP launch)...and I wanted to buy it on the spot.

the shutter is much more damped than the k7, i feel the focus lock is faster and the high ISO is very usable. I would think 25600 is fine at 4R sizes with some NR. very very impressed by the camera and also the new WR lens.

Yes. K-7 has a very cool feature when you are viewing the picture taken, i.e. if you rotate your camera said upright then the photo orientation will flip accordingly. The nice thing about this is that the camera first auto correct the picture orientation, said a portrait picture will be auto rotate upright 90deg when you view with your camera in landscape position, but when you rotate the camera to a vertical upright portrait position, now the photo will also rotate accordingly, i.e. you see a full portrait view (for a portrait picture) as if there is no auto rotation done on the portrait picture but a small landscape picture if it is a landscape picture. Sorry not good at articulating.

Hey guys, can I check what is the default High-ISO NR for the K5? Is it medium or auto throughout the range? Do u all set to high for ISO 3200 and above?
Life is like photography, we develop from the negatives.

Hi FengWei, maybe you can consider shifting the reviews to the review sub forum to create awareness?

I suggest you somehow link zoom3's practical photographic session at ILuma to showcase what the K5 can do. Ppl like to see beautiful women subjects to make up their minds
