SINGAPORE : MRT services between Newton and Toa Payoh were disrupted on Saturday night for nearly two hours from 10.05pm to midnight.
According to SMRT, the company running the train services, a fault at 9.30pm with a southbound train at Newton station caused a power trip.
The defective train was routed to the Bishan depot when the power trip occurred again.
Power tripped for the third time when an empty train was sent to tow the defective train.
During the delay trains were turned around at Newton and Toa Payoh stations.
Thirty two buses were deployed to provide a bridging service between the two stations although some commuters preferred to continue their journey by taxis.
Normal services resumed at a minute pass midnight.
SMRT apologise for the breakdown and say affected passengers can claim a full fare refund at any SMRT stations within the next 3 days. - CNA
