What's a good point and shoot digicam to get? For newbies to snap photos of people etc., doesn't need to be too sophisticated but which produces pretty good-looking photos.

Hey I was just about to ask the same question! Should it have high optical zoom (more than 3x), short shutter lag or twistable LCD to enable shooting at waist level?

THe Canon G2 is ideal, gives good size images (11mb) from a 4mp chip, fast lens (f2.0-2.5) 3x Optical zoom.

What about something with 8x or 10x optical zoom like C720UZ or C2100UZ?

The G2's good but a bit too expensive and full-featured... I'm thinking more in the range of the A40-- stuff for people used to snapping photos with compact cameras.
