can we stack ND filters? lets say ND8 + ND8 then we get 6 stops
tried it, if stack filters and face direct to the sun will get flare. So not advisable.
Hi all, im a noob to ND filter, jus wondering do u guys use a uv filter to protect the lens (during light metering) and cover it up with a ND filter to get the effects that u wan? meaning to say if i have a 10-22mm lens with uv filter and i add a ND filter to get the effects.
Canon EOS 7D, Canon EFS 17 - 55mm f/2.8 IS USM
The UV filter does nothing for light metering. It's purely for protection. In general I will NOT stack filters unless absolutely necessary.
But if using something like ND400 (abt 9 stops), you will have to meter without the ND filter, then (in M mode) reduce the shutter speed appropriately and mount the filter before taking a shot.
The UV filter makes no difference to the metering, but with a UWA like 10-22, possible chance of vignetting.
You can try stacking 2 filters and photographing a plain surface (eg wall at home) and see how it goes.
