He says all his shots previously (when using IR filter) were like LE (few mins), even for those type of shots that would only require handheld if shot normally. Something to do with the ___ filter in the body blocking out most of the IR light.
so even if we mod the camera itself, the exposure would still take a very long time? No right?

if you mod the camera body for IR photog, basically you remove the ____ filter and replace it with another that allows IR light to pass through. Then you get 'normal' exposure times once again, e.g. can handhold for normally bright scenes.

Since we are talking about flash thingy..

I have a very very good question to ask..

Anybody has any idea how you can shoot a firefly?
    Condition:
    • You won't be able to get near it cause it will fly further away from you the moment it sense your heat
    • Flash or any light source coming from your camera will automatically scare it away from your direction
    • How do you do Macro or tele here especially since no light could be used
    • Is IR an appropriate option

yap.. it encounter to me last Sunday when I went Malaysia and visited one of the farm. Its freaking hard to shoot the firefly due to the condition i mention above. Long exposure will spoil the picture and not able to show the firefly with the light on the butt nicely..

The owner challenge me to take one but I could not take any nice shot.. He showed me one of the Ang Mo's photo. Its in A5 size enlarge with no noise and nicely taken. It puzzled me as i'm not sure how's it been done. Wonder if anybody encounter such an issue or know how to get it done.

Must study the firefly to find out what wavelength of light is predominantly produced.
if more into the IR range, then IR photography should make them more pronounced.
and if UV, then must take a UV photograph.
    Exploring! :)

    found some info on wikipedia:

Lampyridae is a family of insects in the beetle order Coleoptera. They are winged beetles, and commonly called fireflies or lightning bugs for their conspicuous crepuscular use of bioluminescence to attract mates or prey. Fireflies produce a "cold light", with no infrared or ultraviolet frequencies. This chemically-produced light from the lower abdomen may be yellow, green, or pale red — wavelengths from 510 to 670 nanometers.

shucks, so it's all visible light, which means IR/UV photography will not help.
