    Default filter attachment

another noob question to make me look stupid.

after fixing the filter attachment on my tokina 11-16mm,
i can see the attachment when i zoom out (widest).
can that be rectified, or must i only use it at 16mm?

    thank you.

It is called a filter holder, not an attachment.

The P series 3 slot filter holder will vignette very very badly on the Tokina 11-16.

Even with the Cokin P series wide angle filter holder (1 slot) will also vignette at 11mm. It will still vignette slightly at 12mm if aperture wide open... only when stopped down at 12mm do vignetting go away.

On top of that, Cokin and Tianya will give you color casts in some situations. See here:

Anyway, I have since moved away from 84/85mm filter like yours and on to larger 100mm filters. Lee and Hitech mix. No problems in vignetting and color casts anymore.

    thanx DD,
    found the answer today.
for the UWA lens, only cokin pro series and other high end filter holder are able to accomodate this type of lens with cropped body.
removing my CPL and UV filter might help a bit.
    thanx again for the link.
    cheers.

There are 2 kinds of pro series in Cokin. Make sure you get the right one.

The right one is Cokin Pro-Z series, which takes filters 100mm in width. The other holders that will also 100mm are Lee foundation kit, or Hitech 4" holder.

All filters from these 3 brands of width 100mm will fit in any of the holders stated above.

    Enjoy.
