Thread: n00b question regarding RAW

    Default n00b question regarding RAW

    Hi,

In case there is a tricky light situation,
does shooting in RAW allow to correct/work on it later in terms of exposure and white balance ?

So just need to worry about sharpness/composition and leave rest for post-processing when using RAW?

    Thanks,

    In theory.... Yes

but if the situation is such that the human subject in the foreground is in shadows and the background is bright sunlight, then it may be harder to correct. It still can be corrected using post procesing softwares but the result will not be as good

then you need to have alot of time spend in post processing . . .

why don't you try saving in both Jpeg and Raw, if the result is good, you don't require to use your RAW.

    Just my suggestion.
Shot more cos digital is FREE !!!

    Thanks,
RAW gives a little bit more leeway in terms of exposure error, but if I give you a RAW image that is underexposed by 3 or 4 stops, I doubt you can do anything to salvage it.

The basics still apply. You shouldn't use RAW like a 'crutch'.
    Exploring! :)

Raw can be useful in some situations. For example underwater, WB varies with depth.
