At least she is one who has the courage to do so (assuming her motive is really to chase away those whom are occupying the seats that are not intended for).

There are many that could have/been thinking silently in their heads/minds/hearts to tell/shoo those unintended parties occupying those seats. but how many has the courage to actually do something about it.

[cast away her racists acts for a moment; that's what i saw in her actions]

If you had watched it towards the end, she welcomed another to take a seat.
She isn't ranting just for a buffer / personal space around her but it's more intended to a certain group in that section of the train

From the video, the crazy woman apparently hit the man sitting at the priority seat. If I am in this man position, I will definitely call the cop and get her arrested! She is just a pain and nuisance to the public, irregardless she may really be mentally ill or not.

We should have more photoshoot models like this so that no photographer will dare to take advantage of them.

Alternatively, we as photographers who seek to capture people, moments with sensitivity etc, should be able to find something deeper within, and seek to show more understanding that what was "captured" was not really normal, thus more understanding of the issues that may surround it may be required before posting it on the net for our viewing pleasure.

a quote from the link from above. very interesting.

She went on to explain that her sister has been suffering from schizophrenia, or split multiple personality disorder, for almost ten years.

It (the schizophrenia) happened when she was a regular with the Singapore Armed Forces, due to injustices she faced and the stress of the economy,” said Grace.

Grace also added her sister’s condition is under control and she’s been on regular medication and in and out of the Institute of Mental Health.

I don't know if you all notice this.... but she is cussing and screaming at what seems to me, dark skinned foregin workers. And the last part where she 'welcome' another fair skin passenager to seat could be a sign of Racialism.

as per marios_pittas post to the yahoo link, she is suffering from schizophrenia, a kind of mental illness. so i guess we cannot judge her by our "normal" standards.

there are recent more efforts to create more awareness on mental illnesses. The most recent one is the AH Kong ad by HPB on dementia.

i thought it was pretty obvious that there was some form of mental issue from the video...

so this is nothing new, to be frank.

refraining from comment has sadly, little to do with understanding the issue. i could proclaim loudly on the public domain that i wish to be more sensitive, but in the back of mind, do i really understand? would i have a complete knowledge of what makes her tick? when you have read up more on the subject, the reasons for such behaviour, instead of making feel-good, morally superior statements... or have even tried handling such issues in your life, then you'd be one to understand.

She suffered injustice in the SAF when she was a regular & developed the mental illness?

As humans, we tend to judge when encountering strange situations; That's normal, we all do it.

But after watching some tv programmes about such illnessess, we will be more accomodating in future and less ignorant about it. I used to view negatively at kids that are hyperactive, who can't stop touching everything in their surrounding; NOt now, when I know they are infected with a kind of brain disease(chemical imbalance) of some sort.

I would say, we all need education(simple informations) to not make subjective/unjustified judgement.

We would be crazy/ignorant to judge them with our own standard.

Due to my self-proclaimed ignorance on the subject, it would probably be hard to say I understand (her, her state or what her situation is). The only thing I can do is manage how I react to the whole incident (whether new or old, not sure that it matters, at least to me). Never meant to throw "morally superior statements" around and if you felt one was thrown at you, I do apologise for it.

There is no need for a complete understanding to show empathy.

Comments are fine, if they are meant to share info on how to deal with the situation, not when they are used to mock or make fun of the person who is obviously suffering from a mental disability.
