Smile A tour of Lincoln Castle - Part I

Sharing some images taken during a visit to Lincoln Castle, comments and criticism are most welcome.

1. The East Gate of Lincoln Castle. William the Conqueror was crowned as King of England on Christmas Day 1066. He controlled his newly conquered kingdom by building a network of strong royal castles across the land. Lincoln was one of the first castles to be built in 1068.

2. 166 Saxon houses were demolished inside the old Roman fort on the hilltop to make room for the new Norman castle. In modern day, one has to pay a due to gain entry into Lincoln Castle.

3. The Georgian Prison Building features exhibitions on the history of the prison within Linclon Castle, the Lincoln copy of Magna Carta of 1215, the legal basis for several democratic constitutions is also on display here. The Lincoln copy is the best-preserved and best-surviving example of the actual document in the world.

4. The Crown Court, a place where judges, barristers, jury members and lawyers still come to dispense justice till today.
