I used to smoke but I finally gave it up. I think that should be the best solution.

I've seen worse, got people purposely puff into my face before, I felt like spitting at them.

Give and take... i feel. U deserve ur clean air, they deserve their right to... destroy their own lungs.... its a free world.
so.. drugs like heroine should not be banned too? to drug addicts, it's their freedom what.. and the nice thing is, they don't pollute the air.

although the nicotine found in ciggarettes is also a drug, it's controlled in quantity.

however, those other drugs that are illegal contain substances which contain substances which cause people to hallucinate, stone and do many other things.

if you've read cases of people who consume such drugs, you'll know what they do afterwards:
    1) think they're superman and jump off buildings or walk across busy roads thinking it's empty
    2) become so dependant on the drugs that they practically can't do anything. not even work.
    3) most of these drug addicts don't even hold proper jobs and beg, steal, rob to get money for their next hit.
    4) abuse family members for money, or hallucinate that their family members want to kill them.

and the list just goes on. and that's why all those hallucinogenic drugs are all banned worldwide, and not just in singapore

My point is, that line of argument in post 20 http://www.clubsnap.com/forums/showp...7&postcount=20 doesn't work..

Although cars give out smoke, it's an essential part of the transport network. Of coz, reducing cars and increase public transport is good too.

Similarly, using crying babies, airplanes, farting, talking loudly etc.. in comparison to smoking in the context of "human rights" is just not reasonable.

So banning of smoking should have no implication to the other acts of freedom

Not true, I find that there are policies in place to prevent vehicles from emitting too much smoke. Also, we don't have to walk behind vehicles (unless you're a motorbike and drive behind one, but that one is more of bo-pian)

If you drink, you die, it doesn't affect anyone else. I don't really care. As long as you don't drink and drive and hit someone innocent.
If you smoke, as long as you don't breathe, I'm okay with that. The moment you breathe, I have to breathe your second hand smoke, and that's the issue we have.

Not my problem really, as long as they don't fall on someone. Hope you get the point.

We've used the same analogy with my cycling group. If you want to ride dangerously by yourself, if you get hit by car or die, then I will be sad but really, it doesn't affect me in any adverse manner. If you ride dangerously in a group, everyone in the group is affected.

I'm okay with smoking as long as they don't exhale.

Yes, 100% agree with hazmee, quit smoking is the best solution
    Benefit of quit smoking:
    1. Save your money
    2. Save your life
    3. If you have children, also save them from 3rd hand smoker
    4. From the saving can buy more camera or lens

Yes, my point of this post is that walking WHILE smoking will increase the chances of others inhaling those bad 2nd hand smoke.

More 2nd hand smoke = More people getting lung cancer = MAYBE more deaths due to lung cancer = Smokers who let people inhale 2nd hand smoke are murderers??
    >> This can't be! So we have to live with it as cigarettes contribute quite a far bit to S'pore taxes..

I'm a non-smoker and I dislike it when smokers take out their cigarette and smoke + puff in front of me when walking along sheltered walkway.
First, it stinks and secondly, the smoke is 2nd hand smoke!

this is just one of those things which, in the ideal world, we should have. but we aren't living in one. ban smoking is just one thing, there are so many things that people are unhappy about. then what should we do about it? ban everything?
just be considerate (referring to smokers) and more forgiving (referring to non-smokers), and this world will be a better place.

It's not about banning cigarettes. It's about fining people who smoke while walking.

That way, smokers will be more considerate when performing their activity and govt can still get these sinful taxes.

Another way is to double cigarette price for 'over the counter cigarettes'. But keep the prices the same at these 'smoke houses' and cigarettes sold at these houses must be used before leaving the 'smoke house'. And sales at these houses will be limited to per stick, not per packet.

    I'm a smoker.

I do walk & smoke but I try to avoid people by taking another path. Most of the time, I try to smoke at the designated areas outside buildings but sometimes no choice, on the move.
