Default changing shutter speed after cocking in seagull TLR

Is this a crime? I did this accidentally - its still working, though I have no clue whether its working accurately...

No it is not a crime, just don't do it too often.
Actually, it depends on the type of shutter mechanism your Seagull shutter is copied from. The later Compur shutters of the Rollei have a different escapement mechanism and changing the shutter speed after cocking does not damage the shutter. However, the same cannot be said of early Compur shutters(pre-1958).

So it depends on which type of Compur Shutter your Seagull has copied. As a general rule, don't do it.
