Default how to do a mass rename of files?

I have a long number of image files but unless i look at the exif i cannot make scent of the dates of the photo. Is there a program to let me do a mass rename of file name at the same time keeping the uniquity of the origin filenames? Thanks.

I know InfanView can do batch rename. But not sure if it would reset the date.

Why not rename them when you download from your camera?

Try here. I'm using "A.F.5 Rename your files", it's not bad, a little cumbersome but free.

i'm using IrfanView 3.91 .. as recommended by a lot of fellow clubsnappers.. it's freeware and it's very easy to use. not only you can mass rename, you also can mass convert files (eg: TIFF to JPG, etc..)
