Default White balance and focal length?

Hi seniors, may i enquire i have tried using the preset to get a white balance under some lighting condition, everyhing works fine and the color scheme looks ok to me. But then when i tried 'zoom' to the subject, the output seems different, looks under exposed.

Can anyone please enlighten since all settings are remained the same, only difference was the focal length.

    Thks.

my guess is you are using manual exposure mode and a non-constant aperture zoom lens, hence there was slightly underexposed on the longer focal length setting.

Either you use P, A or S mode (depending on your subject) to get automatic exposure adjustments or you just need to observe your exposure meter and adjust the camera settings. Maybe you want to read the newbies guides here first before using Manual? Exposure and white balance are two different pair of shoes.

White balance is not the same as exposure. I suggest reading in your manual a bit more so you can tell when you need to re-expose.
