Default Qns for PowerShot S1 IS owners

Hi folks,

Juz wanna to know something about the Image Stabilizer. Want to confirm if I can use the cam to shoot night scene without tripod. Normally that would be like 1/10s-2secs. Can the Image Stabilizer work ok on those shuttle speed. Cos to me, the point of having a IS function is not to carry tripod.

thks.

Not likely.. it should only work on 1-2 stops... like.. you might need 1/100 sec to hand held a 100mm focal length.. with IS, most likely you can hand held it at least 1/25 sec.. Sometimes it varies among individuals.. Correct me if I am wrong...

For a good night scene shot to be taken, there is simply no substitute for a tripod. IS does not really help in this case, depending on what u are taking, usually the sources of light are not bright enough to achieve a moderate shutter speed for the IS to work effectively. You'll be getting something like 1/2 secs or even slower. Probably too slow for the IS to work effectively, and you'll still end up with jerky/blur shots if you attempt to handhold the cam and shoot.

Don't be lazy, bring a tripod and stick your cam on it. Lugging around a tripod may seem bothersome but remember it helps you get a good, sharp shot. Else you'd be wasting your time taking substandard quality shots.

Yeah, it won't help, at all. I tried that with my good old Oly 2100UZ.

anyway 1 or 2 stops is good enough for day to day shot...u will be surprise that u need of that for indoor shoots or places that in dimly lit.

For me I'm using a dlsr...thanks to the low ISO noise, my way of stabilise the cam is to boost up the ISO....
