What are you shooting mostly now?
What conditions are you shooting now?
What are you shooting for? hobby, commercial, weddings, events? paid or hobby?

Really need to know your situation, as well as your shooting style, shooting objectives, before we can recommend anything.

You can also post a link to your portfolio now, so people can see which lenses will benefit you more.

Without letting us understand all these, any recommendations coming your way will be based on other's experience and situation and needs. May be totally irrelevant to your needs.

Saw your pics. What is the next step you are trying to achieve in your pictures? What you wish you can do when shooting? what your current setup cannot achieve?

i'd suggest tamron or tokina's 28-70mm f2.8, i find this focal range to be perfect for portraiture. although you lose out on the wide end its a good walkabout lens and has enough reach for portraits. well thats what i think you might think so otherwise. hope this helped..

.. saw your flickr and seems like you shoot a bit of everything with a bit more of portraits.. Both candidates are ideal to replace your kit lens (I'm guessing it's a EF-S 18-55 f/3.5-4.5 IS). While the Tammy may produce sharper image, the Sigma has slightly better focal range. If you are considering more for portrait, then the Sigma reach of 70mm with f/2.8 would make a better choice.

Just bear in mind that these 2 lenses are equivalent to your EF-S and would not go onto a full frame if you're looking to go that direction. But then, the APS-C is such a useful DSLR, many who has full frame still keeps their APS-C. Happy shooting.

i think at 28mm its abit hard for me as i sometimes use it on family and i may not have enough space behind.

To achieve that, neither of the lenses will be fast enough for low light shooting. You might be better off going for prime lenses for the focal lengths you like.

    Some lenses you can consider:

    Sigma 20/1.8, Sigma 24/1.8, Canon 24/1.4. Sigma 30/1.4, Canon 35/2, Canon 35/1.2

For 50mm, 1.4 is the next step up, but people have reported some reliability issues with the USM in Canon 50/1.4. It is up to you. Maybe Sigma 50/1.4 or go all the way with 50/1.2.

You might also want to consider going into strobes. So getting a flash may be another different approach.

you already have a 1.8 aperture lens... the ones that you are looking at aren't going to help in replacing it...

consider like what daredevil said, look at some primes.. or get a ext flash like the 430 or 580...

If you are considering the Sigma 17-70mm, please note at 70mm the aperture is down to f4.

Why do you need to replace? What homework have you done so far? Why do you need somebody else to tell you which lens to get? Read reviews, see which lens has which features and how the test results are.
Bear in mind that focusing in low light is also a question of the AF sensors. At 50mm the Tamron still has f/2.8, giving 1 stop more light to the AF sensor.
