Default 70-210 and 75-300: which lens better?

Hi, I'm in a dilemma... I'm trying to decide between Nikon 70-210mm f/4-5.6 and 75-300mm f/4.5-5.6, but would need some advice from users

Which in your opinion is a better lens? I know both have rave reviews, but when we look at the two side-by-side, which is better in terms of sharpness, distortion, etc?

I hardly use longer focal length actually. From experience, my old Tokina ATX-828 (Canon EF) spent most of its time in the dry cabinet. It's just too bulky to bring ard

Thanks in advance

You have both lens, don't you ? Haven't you tried them out and see which do you prefer ? No use looking at all the reviews when you never actually use them or is satisfied with the results..

Any suggestions? Would the additional reach of 75-300mm justify it's extra weight or any performance lost?

both are great performance lens, all depends on your needs. I sold my 70-210 F4 and replaced it with 180 F2.8. just bought 75-300 as my main telephoto lens when the need arises. bottom line is do you need the 300mm reach? if yes, keep the lens. if no, sell it! - i am sure there will be many potential buyers for your 75-300!!!!

Nikkor AF 70-210 f4 and the Nikkor AF 75-300 f4.5-5.6 are 2 very good and affordable lenses. both are sleeper lenses!!

but the 75-300 is a push-pull and is really heavy and huge! best with a tripod if u've trembling hands...

i own the AF 70-210 f4 and am still using it now. its superb and its really affordable at around S$400/. good for most ppl if looking for a cheaper alternative to the 80-200 f2.8. however, its really rare in the used market.

as for the 75-300 (around S$350-400), used it many times in the past. don't really require the range and can do without the weight thus, opted for the constant f4 70-210.

Hm... read from website that 70-210mm f/4 has AF errors with certain Nikon bodies. Anyone had problems with D70?

Kit lens already giving me problem. If suay suay the f/4 also like that, how?

By the way, read that all these lenses are kinda slow in focusing except for the 70-210 AF-D. Is the D70 motor fast enough to compensate for that?

Thanks for all your comments!

hahhaha....although D70 has many features, it certainly doesn't have a motor drive like the F100 or F5! you pay for what you get! if the motor of D70 is not fast enough for you (900 CAM = same as F80 and D100), then you should do manual focussing. may be faster that way!

hehe very true! the motor on the F5/F100 is so strong that focussing speeds with non AF-S lenses isn't that much slower than AF-S lenses..
