Thread: The Nikon "G11" - P7000

The camera seems a little too big and the lens a little too slow compared to the competition. Something smaller and brighter would be a better second camera to a DSLR.

hope with the P7000, they will have better compact, but don't neglect their DSLR
As I am a Nikon DSLR user, if I wanted to buy a compact camera, I also would like to try another brand.

looks interesting... if only it were a DX sensor and with interchangeable lenses

good that it has two dials for changing exposure settings... but what's with the Canon-style "flat-dial"?... not a complain as such but seems like a move away from the traditional thumb and forefinder dial combination...

It seems that P7000 IQ is not as good as that of LX5.

    What do you think?

It looks like alot of effort has been put into this camera and I am really interested to know how much has changed in their design process.

unless theres is major flaw, i will definitely get one..

I can use my SB400, and I can use NX2 to edit raw file, and i believe the menu should be similar to Nikon DSLR..

P7000 is definitely a good news for the die hard Nikon DSLR user..

The Samsung's AF really sucks even in well lit place. despite the gorgeous LCD display, it's not gonna win any donut.
Panasonic's WB is reddish. I prefer the colours and WB of C, N, K, F and O for point and shoot anytime.

A promising looking camera. However i'll wait for the G12 and make a comparison. Just wondering, would you guys rather choose a prosumer camera i.e G11 and P7000 or a micro4/3 camera to compliment your DSLR. Although i know a micro 4/3 virtually a DSLR level camera.

P7000 has the advantage of 7.1X zoom despite being bulky can still be lug in a large pocket.
M4/3 can't meet these two characteristic. If G12 can come up with an equavalent zoom, HD movie plus the articulating LCD will be their selling factor.

Pre-Photokina 2010: Canon has launched the PowerShot G12 premium compact, successor to PowerShot G11 released last year. Inheriting most of the core features of the G11, the latest model sees the addition of an EOS-style front control dial, Hybrid IS for close-up work, and 720p HD video recording. It also adds multi-aspect ratio shooting and SDXC card compatibility. The rest of the features remain the same including a 28-140mm equivalent lens, 2.8" tilt and swivel LCD, manual control and RAW shooting

This depends on the buyers preference, 7.1Xzoom vs articulating lcd.
Me? I'm going for the extra zoom. Lets wait and see the IQ comparison

Just try out the canon g12 at canon singapore product launch just now, not much changes other than the front dial and better noise control, 1 thing interest me is that now the g12 is able to use the eos accessories like flash trigger, speedlite wireless transmitter etc... Kinda feel like a mini Dslr without interchangeable lens, wonder will the Nikon p7000 will be able to use their Dslr accessories like canon...

You should get both a prosumer and a m4/3. And since a m4/3 does not handle like a dslr you should also get a dslr, or two, dx and fx.
