Hi all....
Planning to get a tele...... to go with my D70....have read quite a number of reviews on these 2 lens.... seems great but would like to get more feedback on them before I actually go and test out the 2 lens so that I know what to look out for..... Prices I was quoted Nikon - $1535 w/o GST from CP Sigma - $1300 w/o gst from CP Are the prices ok?? Don't want to become carrot head..... Greatly appreciate feedback and comments on these 2 great lens...... Thanks in advance..... |

The price for the nikon is reasonable. I had one before and it is a great lens. Looking at the price difference I would recommend that u get the nikon.

I tried both liao.....
Sigma 70-200mm colour is better than Nikon. But sux at F2.8....me zzz I use B&W skylight on Nikon 80-200mm(W/O AFS)...colour superb. For F**K type lighting,Nikon is better.Thats what I saw from photos. Pai seh...me not Old Bird..hehehe |

The AFD 80-200 f2.8 is one of the best non AFS zooms of nikon. Great for portraits and close up shots. A keeper.

If I were you, find a very good condition used ones.
As $1500 is I think is too much for a discontinued lens .. in HK you can get them starting from S$ 1100 a friend said. Also find the tripod collar ones if you can, as somehow ... I used the Non D, D and D w/ tripod collar .. and the last one focusing is the fastest [dun compare to the AF-S pliz and it was on my F90 I test them with] And as other old bird in my "pack" said .. get Nikkor glass anytime you can, they won't dissapoint As that lens can really perform @ wide open ... see my gallery on my friends graduation ceremony. =bob= |

Based on my experience, the sigma 70-200 f2.8 APO is good and very sharp at F2.8 too.....Even in super bad lighting...the photos that i have teken with flash and sufficient EV compensation.....produced great results. Rgds Sulhan |

For this, the difference is so small, Nikon is definitely the best buy for a mere 200 bucks or so difference. I like what Ken Rockwell said that if you buy it today, you might still be using the Nikon ED in 2014! Or you might have sold it off to someone else and so someone would still be using it in 10 years time. Just look at some of the MF lenses in those 2nd hand gear shops - quite a few lenses are more than 10 years old and they are Nikons, but hardly any Sigma. |

Hi all.....
Thank you for all your frank opinions on the 2 lens.... Just 1 question... the Nikon AF 80~200mm f2.8D ED is a discontinued lens as mentioned by B18?? ![]() |

so .. we're left with the AF-S 70-200 VR now but Nikon SG still list the AF tc in their lens range .. so we might be lucky =bob= |
