Default Challenger sells 2.5" HDD enclosure?

Hi all, anyone know if Challenger sells 2.5" SATA HDD enclosures with USB 2.0 port and powered by USB i.e. portable without external power? Went to Comex and couldn't find.

2.5" HDD enclosures are typically powered by USB and no other external power is required.

And yes, Challenger sells the enclosure, but price's is rather high than what you can get from Sim Lim Square.

How much was it? Im looking to get a cheap one.... as i need to clear a 2.5 hard disk before sending it back to dell. It's one time use, unwilling to fork out for a pricey one as i will be left with an empty case after sending it back.

Challenger = 19 for case alone, or 23 for another brand's case + protective slot-in case. Latter one's a slimmer profile, so my dad bought the more ex one. Like other ppl have said, SLS sells cheaper, but challenger is accessible islandwide.

Cheap one can cost as low as maybe $10.

Better one like the coolmaster can cost $25.. but the performance is better (higher speed, lower power consumption etc..) and more reliable. I bought $10 ones before and never trust those again..

alternatively, you can consider buying a SATA/IDE to USB adapter.. cost around $35.. but can use for various HDDs, 2.5" or 3.5" and comes with power supply. It's useful as a "just in case" accessory.

Well, if you don't want to waste the casing can considering buying a HDD as portable external drive..

btw, if you just wanna clear the disk, why not just boot from USB flash drive or similar, then format/wipe the disk using dos tools? no need to get enclosure.

Oh its more of transferring the stuff out , and then format it before sending it off to Dell for good.

Ok im quite clueless bout IDE and sata.... laptop hard disks are usually sata?

    Laptop usually its IDE..
maybe the newer version one uses SATA.

The usual formatting way common people do will not 100% clear all data from the HDD.
So if you got super sensitive data on the HDD itself that you don't wan anybody to recover at cost the last resort is to go through electro magnetic wave = may/may not desotry your HDD.

Or you could get those software to do a full format.

Nowadays, almost all HDD is SATA.. unless your laptop is like > 4 yrs old..? then there's a good chance it maybe IDE.

If you're buying enclosure, do make sure, because they're not interchangeable. However, if you're getting the adapter, normally they include both (need to confirm on the box lah..) interfaces.

Since you're taking the HDD out anyway.. just take out and then bring to the shop lah.. ( put the HDD in a proper carrier to prevent damage ).

For formatting.. choose the normal one (not quick format).. should overwrite all the data already..

If i can recall, it's Dell Inspiron, the one that came packaged with singtel deal. Not sure how old is it already?

The thing is, the seagate hard disk has been taken out by the service guy, and a weston one replacing it. Now i just need an empty case to do a one-time transfer, then clear it. Before Dell comes pestering me to hand over the hard disk.

Is there any 2.5" HDD enclosure like Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex ?

Basically it's just the plastic case but we can use plug-able SATA adapter to USB2 , USB3 or FireWire .

If you're referring to biskandar's question, he's asking if there is such a product, with which often times even the challenger people don't even know.

If you're referring to me, the TS, I already got the product a long time ago and it was from challenger, and I did ask there after putting up a thread.

Either way, why the need for your reply if you feel obligated to complain about supposed laziness?

if you're unhappy about my point of view, you're entitled to it.

Aye, but that doesn't help the thread or community (:

@ biskander, I haven't seen them, but there are specialised usb 2.0, 3.0, firewire type enclosures which probably cost much cheaper?
