Thread: Original & 3rd Party Batt used together

Default Original & 3rd Party Batt used together

I can place 2 batteries on the tray of a 3rd party grip. Is it advisable to use an original and a third party battery together?

    Personally I wouldn't do it.

But you can do it if you want. But you have to bear the risks as well, in case anything goes wrong.

Thanks. Checking if there are friends here who experienced issues when using the above mentioned. Then I woundn't want to bear the risk if there is. Ok get 1 more original or 3rd party then.

Issues I heard before is that when charge ended, the camera did not switch to the other battery automatically. Or battery meter is haywire...

Original battery is not that much more expensive. And the difference in cost is very small compared to the amount of money you pay for the camera and lenses. And 3rd party batteries perform much worse than original battery most of the time after several months. Why skimp on the battery?

    Hello skysunsandsea.
Hahaha... what daredevil123 brother says is true.
An analogy would be... like mixing different batteries into a torch light.

But allow me to share with you my experience.
I have used, time and again, original and third party batteries in both 3rd party battery grips and original battery grips.
So far I have never encountered any problems, if that is of any consolation to you.
Nowadays, if occasion calls for it (e.g. when my original battery runs out of juice), my SereneXMM still mixes original and 3rd party.
Just to share with you only lah.

Aiyah.. Sorry no experience with LP-E5, so I really can't advise you on price for this.
    Our 5DMkII uses LP-E6.
    Original $120.
    Third party $25.
Heaps of difference in our case here, in terms of price.

i have an original grip with 1 ori canon batt and 1 3rd party. Like you, abit worried if problem occurs. Came across a thread earlier about a 3rd party battery expanding inside the cam body and had to dig it out.

So i use 1 battery at a time. If anything goes wrong, its easier to isolate the problem. Only if it doesn't explode in my hands.

Ya read about the battery expanding! So scary.

Thanks all. I go walk around at Comex tomorrow to look for batt. Just checking if anyone here knows so easier for me.

No wonder you guys all looking to get 3rd party...

    For us Nikon D300s/D700 users,

    Original battery = $49
    3rd party = $25

So you see for us it makes no sense to go 3rd party.

I use a Phottix Battery Grip and in it, I have the original LP-E5 and a Phottix Battery and both are of the same ratings, 1080mAH. I have a different 3rd party with a supposed higher rating, but I wouldn't dare mix and match with that.

    Hi,

do take note tat if ur camera goes a bit crazy, just remove everything.. and insert ur orginal battery into the battery compartment without the grip.. just the original cam will do.

i encounter a couple of times when the camera so crazy, as in cannot change apeture and all, all stucked. then i realize its the 3rd party batt problem. so i remove everything.. insert the original batt in without the grip and its working again after that then use batt grip again.

initially i tot i might be coz of the 3rd party lens i'm using.. end up it wasnt. tsk tsk.

As for Battery Grip, I plan to buy an 3rd party grip from China (my friend going to help me to buy) for my D300s. Will that give me problem?

    Thanks!
