Default 75-240mm f4.5-5.6D vs 70-300mm f4-5.6G

Care to give some comparison on these 2 lenses.

Is 70-300 a better choice since it covers more zoom range and its largest apperture is f4 ?

The 75-240mm is discontinued by Nikon. I have this lens as it came as a kit. Built quality isn't inspiring with a polycarbonate lens mount. Picture quality is ok, if you stop down 1-2 stops from maximum and stay clear of either extreme of the focal length. If you don't intend to print bigger than 4 by 6, it's still usable at the 240 end but it's noticeably softer than the middle focal lengths.
