All of Mcdonald's burgers are pretty crappy except for the McSpicy, which is enjoyable once in a while. BK's range is inarguably tastier and the prices aren't really that far apart. A Mushroom Swiss Double meal only costs a few cents more than a Big Mac or a Quarter Pounder meal.

KFC and Pizzahut serves Pepsi.. becoz they are owned by Pepsi Co.

All the other competing fast food restaurants probably serves Coke.

i like BK more, their burger taste better. but price is $1-$2 more than Mac.

the thing is, w/o competitor, will Mac increase thier meals by $1? ie "valure" meals up to $7-$8?

Mac's non-menu burger is actually considerably larger than BK. This captures more of those
people who don't really want a full meal, but just something to snack on. The more salty fries
help too (more salty fries = more drinks to go with it). You have got fries, Mcwings, Nuggets,
plus all the mcFlurry's, cones, sundae, and now also the cakes and buns from McCafe.
They capture every segment of the market.

Also, BK's pricing is a bit irregular... eg. The price of a medium coke at Mac's only get you a
regular coke at some of BK's outlet.

Still, I had thought that there were enough customers in this mid-range to cover their survival... but obviously not.

Speaking of which, has anyone tried the Triple Whopper yet?
Triple? How much beef is there because here, it would be 0.75 pounds.

So many people are out of work in the U.S.A., it's no wonder that they're struggling. They also had a problem with forcing the double cheeseburger to be US$1.00 in places like New York City where the cost is similar to the sales price.

They have a real estate division but they're still a fast food company and every store manager and/or franchise owner has to go to Hamburger University for training. If not for Ray Kroc, the name might have just died.

If i'm not wrong,a quarter pounder meal from Mac already costs $7.xx

You might want to check this site occasionally since she's always up to date about the fast food industry, especially just outside Los Angeles: http://fastfood.ocregister.com/

I'd worked for 4 different food providers and a restaurant equipment manufacturer but I still pay attention to what's happening, even though I'm not in the business.

When BK first started they were allied to Pepsi.
Later they changed alliances and went with Coke.
    But too late already.
They lost the customers to their competitors.
Even after the change, cannot get the customers back.

    Because:

    Customers remember their bad experience
Competitors hold on to BK's former customers with good product & good service.
