Default 70-300ED(4.5-5.6), 70-300G(4.5-5.6) or 28-200G(3.5-5.6)?

I am into the aviation photography, and still consider this three lenses.... i had seen the picture quality of 70-300G that was taken by my pal and it seems quite good... and 70-300G is in afforable price length...

has anyone here use any of these lense before and give me some suggestion of which lense to go for?

Thanks for the information!

Seriously... you can consider longer zooms than that, like 300/2.8, 400/2.8 and up.

For starters you can consider the multipurpose-general-all-in-1 70-200VR to kickstart.

I believe the 70-300G is plastic mount. That's why I use the 70-300 D version. Just some input for your consideration.

Another one to the list - 75-300mm f/4.5-5.6 if budget is tight. Ard 300+ used.

Somehow i feel the discontinued Nikkor 70-210mm is better than the 70-300 ED. You can take a look at second-hand cam shops. You will see what i mean then. Just my personal feeling.

The 70-210mm is also one of the recommended tele by this guy also. He actually discourage buying the 70-300ED/G. Read his review on both.

If you are looking for Nikkors only, then you might find his reviews useful, but he seems to opine rather lowly on other brands like Tamron or Sigma.

Default Nikon or Others

In my opinion, for those consumer or entry-level lenses, Nikon is no better than Sigma, Tokina or Tamron. In this category of lenses, I would go for the best Value for money lens around and not particularly the Nikon name. Sometimes, just for the big N, you pay 50 to 100 bucks more.

In this range, I would like to recommend the Sigma 70-300 APO, which is supposed to be the best in this range, based on a number of reviews. This Sigma lens even gives you macro down to 1:2 and even bigger with dSLR.

I am also heard about Sigma 70-300 APO II. PBase got some nice pics by this lens for sample. But I cant find any sample pics by Nikkor AF 70-210 D.

I am trying to decide on this two tele, for the affordable price. Any one has any comparison review/info on this two lens?

If I am not mistaken, it is around $380 with GST. If you are referring to the Sigma 1.4 TC, it is not compatiblewith this lens http://www.sigma-photo.com/html/lenschart.htm

It isn't really advisable to use a TC with any variable aperture zoom lens. Such lenses normally have a small maximum aperture, and optically not as good as primes or the fixed aperture zooms lenses. The small maximum aperture eg. f5.6 coupled with a 1.4X TC results in f8. Most cameras can't AF at f8 due to the lack of contrast and the dark image. A TC also mulitplies any flaws in the original lens, and unless you start out with an excellent lens (like primes or the pro-level fixed aperture zooms), the resulting image might not be to your liking.

Absolutely not possible as shown on the compatibility able on the website. I have the 70-200m F2.8 Sigma and a 2x TC. SO far random shots with the 2xTC is not too bad. But as all TC, degradation of picture will be evident. Well it is a trade off, longer reach for less bucks!!!

Last few days I called, MS quote me $320, forgot to clarify whether includes GST or not.
