I think it is one of hope.

i think i m pretty happy with the promises to assure each and every Singaporean that the HDB flats(public housing) are within reach(financially and availability).

    overall, i'm rather pleased.

Ya ... so they can win big in the up n coming big day!

    You really believe so..?

Current HDB policy is that as long as one meet the MOP, they are able to sublet the whole unit to earn income and stay in private properties..

Gone are the days where HDB flat is supposed to mean the housing needs of citizens.. meaning, owner should stay in the flat or else if they can afford to stay in private properties they should sell it and not hold on to it to derive income or whatever..

Below are some articles highlighting the HDB policy that does not require the owner to stay in the flat.

In other words, if those who can afford not to stay in the HDB does not need to release it to the open market, the supply doesn't increase, will the price come down more readily?

maybe i am easily satisfied... or maybe i did not probe deeper.

i belif the price will take quite some time to go down.

sorry, i m not an expert on such matters, perhaps a more experienced CSer can shed some light.

everyone has his own views and of course, choices.

i do know many young couples who had difficulty in getting a new flat... and cannot afford resale flats.

however, i would like to see what will be done in the coming weeks/months.

i think the rally is qualified to be posted in a TCSS thread...

The politician that i have respect now is Obama.

Actually, I felt that there's something wrong with the HDB policy.. maybe not related to the rally.

If it's primary role is to provide housing for residents, why allow people to own it but not stay in it? if they can afford not to stay in it, that means they don't need it.

when they first bought it they may have needed it, but after years, they may have enough savings to buy a private property without selling of the HDB.

Yes.. by then, they could afford not to stay in the HDB flat anyway, and thus does not require it to fulfill their "housing needs".

In this case, they should sell it in the open market instead of hogging on to it. That would increase supply and help to make housing more affordable for those who really "needs" a home they can call their own, isn't it?
