Default Difference: AI and AIS Lenses

Hi all,

This may sound naive to many, as a new Nikonian Convert, I could not figure out the difference between AI and AIS lenses.

If used in D70, I guess they are also manual focus(?)

Thx

Both lens are manual focus, noted cant do AF and metering on D70.

AI-S - Auto indexing shutter

AI is older version. AIS is an updated version but both works perfectly fine on MF cameras. In most cases, both lenses are optically similiar (but this is not always the case)

AIS has linear aperture travel as the lever is pushed down, while AI is not linear. But no CURRENT AF camera can do Program and Shutter priority with manual lenses now, so it doesn't matter. I go for cheapest unless the AIS is better (like in the case of 28mm f/2.8)
