The S1 will shoot in the following image sizes (taken from manual):
2048x1536 (A4 & letter)
1024x768 (credit card size)
640x480 (email attachments)
Personally, being a newbie, i find the image quality to be very good.
Here are few of the pictures i took after some twiddling with the settings.
Word of advice before you buy though:
Watch out for dead pixels on LCD and CCD ('cos I had one on my LCD the very
next day!). And make sure theres no major dust specks inside the lens. If you intend to buy a bag to go with it, may i suggest the Lowepro D-RES 200AW (fits snugly in the felt interior, camera doesn't bounce inside). Try to get the
charger that has a trailing power cable and doesn't mount directly to the power point, you'll appreciate the space savings. As usual, Alan Photo or MS Color would be your best bets.
Alan Photo: Theres one uncle quite tall with a little paunch (most reserved out of the lot), he's quite friendly and should be able to give some nice discounts.

ALL cameras can produce good quality pictures in the right hands, so don't worry too much about it.
