In addition to what everyone else has already stated, the said lens must:

    1. able to magically repel every dust or dirt particle.
    2. have a filter size of no more than 25mm.
    3. come with a free lens hood (a la Tamron)
    4. be switchable between a push-pull and ring zoom. (Im the oddball with a preference for the push-pull)
    5. also have a built in ring flash for those macro shots.

    To add to that:

    6. scratch-proof glass/cosmetics
    7. water-proof
    8. shock-proof (drop from a height but still works flawlessly)
    9. instantaneous AF (0.1 sec or less)
    10. built in front UV/CP/ND filter which is scratch, dust, dirt and water-proof.
    11. able to magically shrink down to pocket size (ok this is just wishful thinking )
    12. made of super light-weight materials (carbon fibre body and maybe a super light type of glass)
