I was in Hk and Macau this jan and agree with you, macau not much except for st paul that can be covered in under 1 hour. shops are the same as in HK. For venetian i find it's like har par villa here, facade all fake and shops so ex. Only the suites is an experience, I happened to stay in a 1700sq ft suite .
Scenic shots in HK will be a problem due to haze which can be very bad (bring masks!!). If you are in the Central, explore somewhere near the H&M outlet you would find a wide and long staircase which is nice with b/w shots. Take the long escalator to Lan kwai fong and look out for this noodle shop TSIM CHAI KEE NOODLE, 98 wellington Street, Central that serves delicious wantan mee.
    enjoy yr trip

If possible make ShenZhen the last leg of your journey. Exit ShenZhen to HongKong by ferry direct to the airport(check in) and you can get refund for the airport adminstration fee, 100plus HKD in cash.

    Great thread with useful information
As I am going down in Oct, would you think a wide angle (14-24,FF) is useful?
How much did you pay for the cable car ride man?

    14-24 definitely is useful.

in fact i bring 17-40, 35, 135 for my trip and i only used mainly 17-40 and 35 lol... my 135 only used once!

the cable car ride is about HKD 160 (return trip), HKD 110 (single trip), if u buy the octopus card (airport express), u will be given a 10% discount coupon.

I only bought the single trip cos initially wanted to take a public mini bus to Tai O after that but not enough time haha.

Thank you for the tip off, much appreciated
I may consider skipping my 85mm then, saving on some weight & space.

Wah! The cable car is quite costly eh?
The Octopus card is like our EZ Link right, where I can use it on any of their public transportation such as Ding Ding & those mini-bus?

A nice haul of Canon stuff and the Billingham you got

Octopus card is similar to EZ link but is actually more popular than EZ link card in its usage. e.g. other than using it on MTR and Airport Express, you can pay for the purchases in 7Eleven, all supermarket, fast food joints such as McDonald, KFC, Cafe de Coral, Maxim's etc... You can also use it for public buses, tram, and green mini vans. some red mini vans may only accept cash. You can top up the value of the card in any 24-hour convenient stores such as 7Eleven, Circle K as well as at the MTR stations.

If you are a car owner, you will also be using the card to pay for public parking. The card is now being used as the access card to enter private apartments' main entrance.

Its much better than our current system in Singapore where we have so many kinds of cards in the wallet, only to be confused to what to ''tap''.

How much (roughly) would I need in this card for travel for a 4D 3N stay?

actually if you dun intend to take airport express to/fro airport, just get the ordinary octopus card at HKD 150 (cfm will have balance and can be refunded). But you can get the airport express single or return octopus card with 3 days unlimited free rides on MTR then you just need to top up a little, say 100HKD.

Nice! Thanks for sharing. I'll be going HK in December too and hoping for some phototaking practice, so this is really useful. May I know where you took that photo of the Tsing Ma Bridge? And how did you get there?

u can get more info here:
    http://www.travel-hongkong-attractio...ma-bridge.html

basically to get there, u take MTR to Tsing Yi station... from there u can take a small bus 308M at the interchange (before 430pm) else u can take a cab (less then 5 mins) to Tsing Ma Bridge viewpoint.
