Default Any experiences with Prime@Peninsula?

Hi all,
I'm thinking of buying a 2nd-hand lens at Prime@Peninsula. Anybody has any experiences? Positive or Negative?

Also, what advice can you offer?

not bad lah. can bargain a bit with them to reduce the price. but, unless u are a familar face to them, dun expect too much of a warm service from them. at least, that was my experience with them.

Thanks for the inputs.
For those of you who bought lens from them, any complaints about the quality of the lens they sell?

you should always check the lens yourself. there was once i asked to see a lens from the shelf and there was fungus inside. he was not aware of it when the lens was handed to me.

i believe they offer trade-ins for digicams. also, there's a small notice on the glass panel that said they offer pre-owned digicams. u could check out if they offer DSLRs? anyway, they also sell brand-new DSLRs. on mon, saw they had a 300D and D100 on the shelves.

superwoman - you shld check the lens lah. as they display the lens on shelves and not in dry cabinets, u never know how long they have been out in the open. suggest u take your cam body along and test it with the lens.

I had once tried to purchase a Tokina 28-70 from them, then I noticed the optic quality does not seem up to specs as my previous Tokina lens for another mount, I did not tell them actually. I asked the young chap with spectacles for this advice, and he bring the lens inside to check against bright light then told me the optic quality does not seems to be from the better quality batch. I think that is call honest .

The prices are a little on the high side, and the shopkeeper can be a bit aloof initially. I'm sure he's seen his share of people who just want to touch and feel.

Having said that, there's an interesting range of stuff, and there are occasional bargains to be had. I got my Konica Hexar AF from there. A bit banged up, but works great.

Yes, prices are pretty negotiable. Take the asking price as a starting point.

Prime is not bad. Their price is never the cheapest but is negotiable. Try to offer 10-15% below their asking price and you are not far from the price that they are willing to sell. (Their trade-in price is very low though ) As they are doing camera/lens repair too and inspect things that they take in carefully, you can be reasonably confident that their stuff are of OK quality. BTW, they care more if you are seriously interested to buy than if you look "professional" or not and they offer 3 months warranty if I remember correctly.

I have got quite a few Leica stuff from them over the years and never had any problem. Overall, I would rate them as "recommeded".
