SFI also charge SAF very high price for the meals too...if you ever ask your CSM last time in army...

all these 5.5million bucks spend sounds like ''left pocket to right pocket'' principle at the end..(to me at least)...my friend show me a picture of the food they had today. is not as bad as in this article....

Many of the volunteers are foreigners who come from God knows what dung hole in the world where a bit of free food might even light their eyes.

How do you think the lousy food stores in NTU supposedly survive?

In any case, this entire YOG is organized like it's organized the way Communist China would. The civil servants were mobilised, the NSFs were mobilized, the students were mobilized, the teachers were mobilized etc. etc. Like mass conscription.

    saw this post from facebook:

    Don't get me wrong.
I still couldn't fathom why MCYS can allow budget overran of almost 4x to almost SGD400mil but cannot allow an increase in e PA of SGD360/mth for e 4000 poor and destitute ppl in Sg.

Someone even have e cheek to rebute an MP from his own party by asking what food the poor would like: hawker, food court or restaurant when ask if the amount can be increased 2 yrs ago.

And the most important thing bout YOG is involving our youth & exposing em to culture of success. But why deprive our youth the chance of eating with e delegates & sportmen/women?

Why serve them world class food that e cat in my workplace would not even sniff

Guys, don't forget, most of the volunteers are "volunteered". As in like, ok this school and that school, you will be doing the xxx performance. Tell your volunteers to report in ......

In SG most Volunteers = Arrowed.

we have a term for that, "appointed volunteer".

was at esplanade this afternoon, saw a "volunteer" eating lunch, think the guys up there saw the feedback and did something good for a change.

That is good to know. They must want to avoid a PR disaster very bad, now that all the delegates are here.

regardless of whether they stay or not, the food is catered, and is charged.

Let's assume 40,000 volunteers, across 12 days, 3 meals a day, on a $5.5mil budget, it works out to $3.81/meal.
Even if it was incl. rehearsals for abt 15 days, 3 meals a day, on a $5.5mil budget, still works out to $3.05/meal.

Someone please explain how that picture equals either figure? I could get that same "tapao" at a hawker centre for $3.00 or less. And that's a hawker who does not enjoy the same economies of scale as SFI, who would be able to drive their costs down a lot more.

Does make you think again, doesn't it? How many of you have heard your family or friends say,'Economy good meh? I everyday see this sector got growth, that company big profits. Nice to hear, but where's the money? I don't see it, do you?'

i had a discussion with my buddy, he tried explaining why the budget over shot by so much in a logical manner, eg IT infra-structure, YOG village, getting the transport, food etc. it is not easy to estimate a budget for such a big event.

but my question, since they have many (as in 45x) in budgeting NDP, F1 other experience in org summit (cant remember what it was), olympic games by other countries, cant be our scholars under-estimate by sooooo muchhhhh mah.

initial budget is that the yog officials, participants, athletes eat the same food as the volunteers.

    That I agree.

But it's our habit in Singapore to "aim low rather than high out of pragmaticism".

I mean, this entire YOG was an immediate farce when the United States, the biggest earner of gold medals in the Olympics, didn't participate.

who ever say that during the meeting to draft the budget are lying through the bloody teeth. where in a world will u find such "fairness"? only in fairy tales do we get such suggestions.

    quote u my experience :

in my last job, workers came to me saying there is favouritsim when i took over operations initially, i told them i can only minimize the problem, letting all my leaders keep only 1 pet, but they have to make sure the pet dont cross my limit.

to the rest, i told them if they want fairness like in fairy tales in real working life, they should go find a way to turn themselves back to kindergarden kids.
