Default What's wrong with the insects recently? (BEWARE: Gross image)

Alright, so I was minding my own business, doing my works on my laptop. Suddenly, I heard some tiny buzzing sound, and when I raised my head, something dark flew/jumped down on me. I was so shocked that I swapped it away hurriedly, jumped across the room, and hit my leg on the chair.

The 'thing' dropped near my cupboard, not moving. I thought it was dead by my hand swapped, but apparently not, so I whipped out my 'Baygon' and sprayed it. It took a good 20 seconds continuous spraying before it lays motionless. What a tough bug.

Seriously, I never encountered this kind of roaches in Singapore before. It just looks more... creepy. I took two images after I killed it, one with flash, and one without. (Click on image to see the roaches in more detail.)

On a side note, this few months I have quite a lot of insects invading my room. Long-legged mosquitoes, moths, several bees, some hard-shelled bugs, and just today, this roaches. Coincidentally, I just installed the ultrasonic bug-repellent a few months ago. Is it possible that the bug-repellent thing is inviting those pesky bugs rather than repelling them? Anybody else having this insects outbreak in their home?

This looked like a beetle more than a roach.

The macro shooters will say you 生在福中不知福. We have to go hunting for them, they come looking for you.

Good chance for you to buy a macro lens.

alamak cannot tell a beetle from a cockroach...
no wonder more than 10 years ago...a sarcastic Malaysian tour guide at Cameron Highlands said...."Singaporean children...this is ..a COW...." as though the Sing kids never seen a real live one before....

Hmm I thought it's a roach too. And yes, I've had the "pleasure" of having bees, grasshoppers, beetles, cockroaches (flying type), wasps invading my home as well. No bug-repellent used but I stay near a forested area.

Too bad I'm not into macro.

It's just a beetle. Harmless to you, why kill it?

Most of the time is due to lost of habitat.

    That's one tough bug!
Well sometimes if the lights in the room are bright (florescent white) they may attract bugs to come in to check it out. Your chances of encountering them are higher if you are situated at lower floors.

Beetles can be quite resilient to sprays. Next time try boiling water. Works every time.

One day I had this big cockroach in the house, and it settled in my bag of toilet papers, I tried to move it, but it kept on sitting on the toilet paper, didn't want to come out, so I left it there, and the next day it was dead........

I think it was already dying, and just looked for a place to die........don't know if something like exists in the insect world? I know in some cultures (japanese) in the old days, people usually from the countryside when they grow old, the walk up a high mountain and stay there till they die......

@zh3ng: Actually I wasn't using a macro lens. I was using the kit lens that come with the Nikon D50. I was just squatting really close to the bug.

@ricohflex: lol, I am never interested in insects, especially those that occasionally crawl into HDBs -_-!!! But initially I thought it was the hissing cockroaches. Saw them in fear factors before. It still scares the hell out of me.

@rashkae: Well, I thought the bug will bite, since it looks pretty huge, and like I said above, I thought it was the hissing cockroaches (Google to see the image).

@snowspeeder: Um... I hope there won't be a next time...

actually you dont need to spray until it dies, the insecticide is poison it needs some time to work, go eco friendly and reuse an old magazine or newspaper.

but normally i will catch it and let it go outside my window

Looks like a common beetle that I encounter often at my place...I normally just pick it up and throw them out of the house...they seems to be attracted to lights...

This is strange? Look at this, even stranger..
This cockroach's guts are blue: Wonder what it has been eating.

now that you mention it, there seems to be more bugs in my room than normal. A mosquito that took me 3 days to kill, some small bug that flew across my laptop screen while surfing in the middle of the night, an Emerald cockroach wasp that flew in and couldnt find its way out.

now talking about such wasp i once saw a documentary on tv about them, they inject poison into cockroaches and paralyze them, chew off half the antenna of the cockroach and lead them into a hole and inject their egg into the cockroach. the cockroach having lose their antenna, loses their sense of direction too. The egg is hatched inside the cockroach and is eaten alive. Incredible!

Normally would just throw it out the window. Won't kill it unless it's a roach or mosqitoe

I think he/she trying to say that mosquito flew away each time he/she tried to kill it.
