As I understand it, we can expect 5 additional lenses from Samsung and 3 from Samyang within the near future.

Hope Samsung can catch up and beat Panasonic one day. The new Panasonic G series micro four third systems are made in China, ie G2, G10 and GH1. The build quality is damn poor and the touch is very much like a plastic toy. As mentioned in their quarter report forecast yesterday, Panasonic don't think they can match the estimated results due to the squeezed profit margin caused by competition from Samsung. If they move all their camera production line to China to cut cost and improve profit margin, sooner they will burn their own fingers.

And what makes you so sure that Samsung will not considering outsourcing their assembly plants to China? Every business wants to minimize costs and maximize revenue.

Really, why let the 'assembled by' country concern you so much? I'm more interested in enjoying my NX10 than worrying about when it will break. If anything, i have learnt that the more you worry yourself with questions like' how much longer till it breaks', the faster your precious hardware will spoil and find itself in the dustbin.

    Hi guys,
Am new to photography too. Currently own a Samsung NX10 with standard kit lens. Do all of you here own 1 too? How's the 30mm pancake lens like? Is it good for low-lighting conditions?
Yes, I'm hoping Samsung will come up with more lenses too. Anyone been to their NX10 workshop at VivoCity during one of the weekends? Been checking for more info on their 'Samsung Cameras Singapore' Facebook page...

Samsung does have a assembly plant in China. I guess those with 'Made by Samsung' might happen to be from these plants, but should be fine nevertheless.

It actually depends on the QAC of these plants and if they meet certain industry certification standards (e.g. ISO9001/2008).

Apple products are made in China but people are still flocking to buy them.

Yes. And one of their largest manufacturing facilities is in Huizhou, Guandong province, China.

I've been there. It is huge. And it is a top class facility.

It all boils down to the committment of the manufacturer towards quality control ........... this manufacturer is top notch ............ from their phones to their LCDs ............... not to mention their cameras..... speaking from experience here

I think the 30mm is great if you need a little more light but the more impt things about the lens is the DOF and portability.

I am not sure. This is sort of a redundant move. The future clearly lies in mirror-less designs. Keeping the mirror would mean additional material and unnecessary mechanical components.

Sony should be investing properly into contrast detect AF and faster processors with better software.

Samsung is a 'mirror-less' camera while the rest are the common dSLR type. As a newbie, you might want to understand how a dSLR function, irregardless of the camera brand. Different cameras uses different sensor, lenses and etc, and producing slightly different photo and boil down to individual 'taste'.

You might want to note the size of the camera as well, and I suppose that's the reason you're have quoted Samsung NX10.

The NX10 uses an APS-C sensor which is comparable to the other cameras you have mentioned. But it is a little more noisier. I personally think the compact size more than compensates for the very slightly less image quality.

I've seen the white NX10, I think it's not that white but grayish white. not the one I would prefer buying.

If they would only modify the design a bit, it should be okay... just like NX100

the notable difference is the size. usually mirrorless is smaller. but take note as the camera size is smaller, functions are less. but usually the basic and most important one are retained.

another difference is the AF speed, mostly contrast detect AF is slower on mirrorless than phase detect AF on DLSR's. take note of this as this might be the main turn off on a mirrorless camera, but of course if you just use on casual use only, why need faster AF slower ones are also good.
