You get the extra 55-105mm reach, for a nominal sum. I like the feel of the 18-105mm also, seems like more solid. Maybe it's because I don't like the in-out-in zooming of the 18-55mm also.

Further to that (functions you may not need), I am sharing filters with my other Nikon lens, 77mm and the stepdown ring 67-77mm filter doesn't make the front like one big mushroom otherwise.

I've written a complaint email to Best Denki about their poor service.
Let's see what is the reply.

    One more point.
I do not need video mode because I already have this in my Lumix compact camera.

    Another question.

Is 18mm in SLR equivalent to 28mm in compact camera?

Both D5000 and A550 have crop factors of x1.5
So yes, 18mm is around (18x1.5) 27mm equivalent.

Canon is a x1.6 crop factor
So they come with 17mm lens for (17x1.6) 27mm equivalents.

    A550 for sure.
Video feature on Nikon is an so so quality,
and several things that you get from A550 are 7 fps and quite useful HDR in-camera..

To A550 users, do you experience accidentally pressing any buttons on the cam while shooting or operating the cam?

Nope. But everyone's hands are different. Quite frankly, once you start using the cam, you'll automatically get the hang of how to hold it, etc.

Videos on canons are AMAZING. Video from 5d mark ii can be considered pro grade already

Although i'd prefer 7fps over video.

Not at all, in fact I have problems with the button placements on nikon cameras which is why I didn't choose it. It just shows that it is a matter of personal preference.

I think it was mentioned before ! ...wait till the release of Sony's 4 new DLSR in Sept, then post a new thread titled "re: a560/a580 or a33/a55" and get even more confused !

But if you can't wait, ...yup, go get a500/a550 now.

I hadn't even thought of the issue of accidentally pressing buttons with my thumb until now and since we're talking about it, ...No it's a non issue with me (and I got big hands!)

Heeee.....you asking Nike Running or Adidas Running shoe better? Both are great running shoes. Depends very much on the runner itself.
Go and try both model, feel and hold the grip and see which one you like most.

Never encountered pressing wrong button before.

there's a pad where you should be resting your thumb on, but depends on your comfort.

i believe the button placement on the a5xx is meant to be within reach of your thumbs for easy access, for eg i can stretch abit and reach the top panel buttons, and the more commonly used ones like AE-lock, exp are pressable without much stretching (but i have big hands so...)

It really really boils down to whether u need video or not.

The D5000 has video, so if u need it, theres nothing else to choose.

The A550 has more photography related functions like 7fps, fastest live view, auto hdr, image stabilizer for all lens etc.

Both camera produces very good image quality and high iso performances, so its really down to video mode or photographic functions.

    Bro Ghostfit,

    Thanks!

Looks like Sony A550 is my choice liao, on paper.
Will go test it out thoroughly in the camera shops.
