Default Dust found in lens, Normal or Abnormal?

Hi guys, sorry to ask stupid question again. Just bought a Sigma 18-200mm OS lens from someone, I've just found out that under bright sunlight I can see a hairline dust inside the lens. Went sigma service centre they say it's normal, they advice me to wait for more dust to accommodate then send for cleaning which is $125. should I ask seller to refund Or just live with it?

    Yes dust is normal.

How big is the hairline/dust. If does not appear in image then just live with it.

You think want a refund can try ask the seller...but is a good will of the seller to refund not a must as you have check on the spot and happy with it.

If you use a LED touch to shine through i think you will throw the lens away

Thanks paesyl and numnumball for your replies. Mmhh I don't see any defect in my pic. well if it's normal shall keep the lens. Cheap deal are hard to come by. I just been thinking how can I prevent more dust to enter my dust as cleaning one times cost hundred over bucks. Almost lost my appetite over this dust in lens. =)

Shining light doesn't cause more dust to go into your lens. It just shows the existing dust in the lens more prominently. I.e. you are more likely to want to throw your lens away when you see "OMGZ, there's SOOO much dust in the lens!"

Lol my fault didn't read what omega wrote properly when driving. Icic i think I better don't shine wait I can't sleep. Maybe we should enforce dust frk
entering the lens using wrapper whereby we use to wrap fruit and veggie to wrap up our lens.in this case nothing can do in but wr got tk forget about zooming.keke.

Shoot in Class 1 cleanroom. Oh wait, you can't be in the same room as your DSLR since you will introduce dust particles, so have to shoot remotely. Oh crud, even Class 1 cleanroom has some dust particles present. Shoot in vacuum-free environment?

Not making fun of anyone. So don't be offended yah?

Also, the ol' cracked lens story...

... the light bends to much through the subsequent elements for the dust or scratch to be visible in the image.
Does this mean that the less elements the lens has, the more likely the effects of the dust/scratch will be visible?

I don't understand why don't the lens manufacturer design the lens in such a way that it's air tight and doesn't cause fogging. cool right? Maintenance free.

Usually the better lens are. If it is weathered seal it should be air tight like the L lens. As for fogging it is harder as there are too many factor that can affect that.

Simple cost/benefit question. It may be a nice feature to have, but would you be willing to pay the price (a heck of a lot more!)
I used to work with optical equipment that was airtight (filled with nitrogen), but those were for military use, designed to go through mud and other muck. They also make L lenses look cheap.
jsprtan: L lenses, airtight? You sure about that?

hi Edwin Francis, firstly appreciated your reply. I wouldn't pay extra $$ for extra protection, but as a consumer definitely we wouldn't want to keep sending our lens for servicing as for long run it's doesn't help saving $$ at all. And also in canon web, L series lens was stated wetherproof as per specification. Does it mean airtight?

L Lens should be. Cause I have seen someone on Line leaving the whole Canon 7D and L-Lens under his shower for testing. If water can go in air too will.
