Default Budget PnS Camera under $200

    Hi Guys,

With a few manufacturer having PnS camera under $200, any recommendation for a budget camera which can be used in a dirty environment (machine shopfloor) to take good picture plus good VGA video?

    Thanks in advance.

imho, I think there's little difference between the budget models in terms of performance. One isn't going to take significantly better photos, or clearer video, than the other.
Just get the brand you feel comfortable with.

    Thank you.
I will go for the cheapest. But, the Fuji JX200 with it's specs is so tempting at $199.

You can take a look at the Samsung digital cameras. Around $200 you get one with video function already.

I wonder what is full HD photo

for images, resolution usually expressed in megapixels.
More than 5MP is probably superfluous, though you wouldn't be able to find such "low res" cameras on the market anymore.

In that case, I will get the Canon Powershot A490 as I believe the Canon build is slightly better than their competitors.

I like Canon powershots! My ex-company uses one for photographing things around the factory (spare parts for order, negligent damage to equipment, etc). Nice and sharp, especially if used with a tripod (can be those cheapo plasticky ones).

Thank you for the comment. Just what I need but I will have more things like oily components and misty environment.

I just thought, hope battery do not run out at shopfloor because with dirty hands, it will be difficult to change battery.

I would also recommend canon, esp when you are going for a budget camera with some reliability and quality.

Exactly, there is not much difference between different models. Only difference is, different brands has different profit margins.

Only thing you need to look at is, different model has different color tones priorities. As you will have little control over the default color tone of the camera, select the one that you like. For example, Fuji has natural color with great blue sky color. Nikon green is predominant, Sony's depth is great.. Canon can have bokeh!! and so on.

Search in few of the photo sharing websites and determine what color tone you like the most. select the brand

Fujifilm is always cheap and good. Sony is overall quite good, Canon is also good... however, I do not have good experience with Nikon Coolpix series (damn slow) or Oli(spoiled immediately after warranty of 1 yr).
    1Ds II | EF 16-35L| EF 24-105L | EF 35f/2.0 | EF 50f/1.8 | EF 85f/1.8 | EF 100L |EF 70-300L| EX 550

    Hi Guys,

Finally spent more than $200 to get a Canon Ixus 105.
I need a spare Canon battery model NB-6L, the original battery is costly from Canon, may I know where to purchase a 3rd party (NB-6L compatible) battery which is able to be charge on the original battery charger?
    Thanks
