Thread: Canon Repair Recommendation?

    Default Canon Repair Recommendation?

I need to send in my Canon 400D & 17-85mm lens for repair. Canon Service's quotation is too high, so I am wondering whether there is any good repair shop in Singapore that may be able to do the job?

Will appreciate some good recommendation. Thanks.

Maybe you can try describing what's wrong with your body and lens.

You pay the price for canon's service quality. Alternatively, you can try looking for fatigue (a CS member).

Canon Does not release all details of their cameras nor do they allow 3rd parties to order spare parts. That limits the possibilities for 3rd party repair ...

400D - have an intermitent error 99. Canon couldn't detect the problem, said nothing was wrong with the body. Said that the problem lies with my 17-85mm lens, but the problem persist after i switch to another lens. Problem seem to occur under very bright sun light.

17-85mm len - unable to focus under dim light.

Common cause of the problem is a broken aperture flex cable of the lens.
This cable is responsible to transmit the signal from the control board to the aperture mechanism.

    Problem symptoms:
-Intermitent if flex cable is not fully broken
-ERR99 at happens if you shoot at aperture other than wide open.
-no problem if used at wide open

Fixing is a bit expensive since they will replace the whole aperture assembly.
Someone selling the aperture assembly online for around S$80
Another option is to buy the flex cable only (around S$20) and look for a repairman willing to fix it for you

Recommended to let Canon perform the repair. They have 'blue-prints' of all the lenses and cameras produced to date hence any 'surgery' perform will be done in good hand. Original parts used plus 3-mth warrenty.

You are right, @ wide aperture lens works but fail other wise. I assume the flex cable is part of the lens?

However, I still need to figure out what is wrong with my body (since it also have intermitent ERR99 after I switch to another lens)!!!

Since Canon mentioned it's related to the lens, get your lens fixed first
