I remember this type of questions in P4, but they were rare, and usually we either skipped it or just brute force the answer. But, i cannot remember it coming out in test or exam.... I remember this usually comes out in those kind of primary sch math olympiads etc. Maybe its for those GEP people? Cause i was in GEP, and i distinctly remember seeing this kind of questions.

I'm not sure how many pri 4 students can think like that under exam conditions though. As for thinking out of the box...well, in my opinion, it's just a regression in the thought process where you resort to experimenting with random numbers (with a bit of logic) when you are unable to think of a suitable mathematical method to solve the problem. It's logic, it's not much math. But maybe that's just me.
The question maybe there to sniff out that distinction student from all the 'A' student

remember reading some article on yahoo, Singapore education system churn out large percentage of good students, while the American education system churn out more genius than Singapore system but kills off the main bulk of the students.

guess Singapore is trying to inject some way to filter out possible genius student from the good students.

why can't H be double digits? like 88, 73, 90? u mean to say it must be single digit even if the question didn't say so? if yes then ok lo. ahhahaha... nv attempt such questions before.

after thinking about it for 10 minutes i gave up.

if i am the person attempting the question. this is what i will write.

    What is K (0 to 9)?

Since no numbers are given and that the alphabets in the problem can be any numbers from zero to infinity. I can neither deduce any possible solution nor make any sensible assumptions. Even if I copy the answer from my friend sitting next to me i will have only 10% chance of getting it correct, which is no better than me even wild guessing here.

The best way to find the answer would be to ask 9 another friends, and all of us write a different answer. From there we will know K equals to what when the paper comes back. The only assumption i am can make here is that K = any value from 0 to 9, and is a whole number.
