Guys... Is Canon or Nikon better?

i suggest u go to the shops and try out both brands, then decide for yourself
I for one am sick and tired of these pointless comparison threads. Having waded through the whole sordid 'write speed comparison' thread in the Nikon sub-forum, I find it really strange that grownups with tens of thousands of dollars worth of equipment are insecure enough in their purchase that they want to belittle other camera brands on basis of write speed???! Frankly speaking, its like going to the little boy's room and saying, woah, I can pee faster than you!Originally Posted by nooch
Going by the way this sort of debates go, I'm quite surprised that my 'ancient' film camera is still capable of taking pictures as it doesn't have the latest measurabating doodad and newest technological whizzbang.
I sincerely hope that you have better things to do in your life (like taking good photographs) than trolling in the forums.
ps On second thought the above might be a bit harsh in case you are genuinely interested. Anyway, the answer is neither is better. Good photographs are produced with all sorts of cameras, not just Canon or Nikon. The fact that either one is better is irrelevant to the type of photographs produced.

Nooch, is your skills better or mine better?
My advise: (the following steps)Originally Posted by nooch
1. dun ask
2. try out the various models yourself.
3. Then keep your comments to yourself.
Both are just brand name;both are good but would not make you a better photographer.Originally Posted by nooch
Depends on who you're asking (die-hard nikonians vs canonians) and what you're asking about (company R & D, products, support, and the list goes on). And since there're so many things that could be brought in and debated about, your question has to be a lot more specific to in order to get any useful advice - otherwise there will be lots of unnecessary (and endless) debates.Originally Posted by nooch
In short, be specific about what you're asking.
try to find out more about the lenses first - nikon seems to have an upper hand with wide angle lenses, generally speaking. but canon,.. well, you got full compatibility across the EF mount.
try to get your hands on either brand's cameras, and see if you like the layout of controls etc or not. personal preference is very important.
maybe, he's just looking at film scanners?
this newbie is really asking for trouble....

Both are very good.
Don't ask this type of question.
Try them out and decide which brand you like.
use dSLR camera that the lenses can be used as long as possible even with the brand's latest camera.
use dSLR camera that has instant start-up.
use dSLR camera that has the best flash system.
use dSLR camera that can be used for multiple wireless flash.
use dSLR camera that its battery is Li-ion so there is no memory effect.
use dSLR camera that can last you about 2000 and above shots.
use dSLR camera that feels solid in your hand.
That is all i can do for u to decide.
Maybe should be more specific about comparison. Like one model compared against another. But then, will still invite trouble.
top of the line nikon is better than entry-level canon, and vice versa. cameras with similar specs and price for both xxxon brands are similar.
best camera brand? olympus!
you can buy better gear but you can't buy a better eye

As for which camera brand is better, it is at best a man's guess and
feel pitched against another....
Re-phrase your question based on your requirements for shooting
and budget and the CSers may be able to help....
Have a perfect weekend!
Good! ppl here are getting more and more mature and I think we shd ignore all these unnecessary qns so to make CS a better place. Unless it's a genuine questions or someone that sincerely ask for advice etc. Why waste all our time, we shall ignore since it has been ask and ask for many time and still will never had a answer. Maybe Moderators shd even judge to remove some of these if they are the same "mine is better" stuff again. Most ppl cant seems to say their decisions are bad so what ever they have, it must be good in their preferences.
