Default Parrots at Chain Clothing Stores

Do you get sick over all these sing-song, parrot like greeting you received from the sales staff when you enter stores like Uniglo or Giodano...or even the $10 hair saloons like QB house.

    'Welcome to Uniglo!"

    "Thank you, see u again!"

They just sound so programmed and insincere. I would rather they install an infra-red chime like 7-Eleven.

Doesn't hurt to just smile and acknowledge, I think I am more bugged by the "high and mighty I-don't-see-you" attitude of shoppers'.

Add: Not a typo on the "shopper" part, cause I do think some shoppers can be more gracious.

It's normal japanese style politieness. Likewise, i do prefer they greet, then give you the "this place is too classy for you to shop at" snub.

The greetings are ok. Just the way they are done...too mechanical, sort of like a recorded message.

I was at Uniglo waiting for my wife to try out some clothes. The 'Welcome to Uniglo' and 'Bye, See U Again' in the funny sing-song slangs just crack you up after a while. Reminds me of the tactics interrogators used on POWs. LOL.

I like it when they call you by name.

I agree that they are overdoing it a bit.

The other day I walked into a departmental store.

The sales lady greeted me, "Irasshaimase." with a bow.

Then she proceeded to kiss both sides of my cheeks.

I would best prefer it if I can walk into a store with nobody around and just take anything I want.

the sales staff are trained to greet customers when they come into the shop & when customers are leaving.

they r just doing their job.

I personally find the greetings ok and I will acknowledge it.

    Its a form of courtesy.

Infact I've came across many sales ppl who made me feel very welcome, not that they are greeting for the sake of greeting.

these "parrots" are also found in chain restaurants like Crystal Jade and sushi joints.
