Low-end Android phones are capable of a lot of things, and can even be much better with developers' custom ROMs. The best out there I think is still CyanMod, and people using my phone have even started a poll in CM forums to request for CM to be ported to it.
because they dont feel like playing with it. like myself, a samsung galaxy spica user( free one). i had been playing gadgets since black and white palm os, omg , i remember i spent $300 on a Compact flash(CF) modem......so to me, playing with what add-on, interface changes, os crack or crack, launcher hack and etc.. are so old school . i cant be bother no more. my purpose is to check mails appointment reminders, make calls and receive calls. thanks to Rashkae, touchdown works really well.

btw, which Android phone got built in email/calendar like touchdown( full exch sync, can put reminder on the screen) and dont have to purchase separately?

From the looks of this thread http://androidforums.com/sprint-htc-...ndar-sync.html, HTC Hero has it.

For MSN Talk, it seems like every time the screen switches off, I will disconnect, not sure what the problem is though.

There are advantages in doing so. I do it mainly because it makes my phone work better. It's now faster and eats up less battery, so I like that. I can also use wifi tether to connect my laptop to the internet using my phone. Sure, there's wireless@SG, but I don't quite like the fact that everyone can connect to it. I still prefer my own private network (Wireless@SG is rather slow and unstable for me anyway, connection always breaks halfway). There is also tethering for non-root users, but then I have to pay 30 bucks for PDAnet if I want to access secure sites (those with https encryption and the like) after the trial period which isn't even stated.

I don't know how fast your Spica is, but mine is really really fast now with a custom ROM. It's worth it, I feel, to root your phone and install a custom ROM. Rooting is not like iPhone jailbreaking to use pirated apps, it's for enabling features you cannot use in a non-rooted phone.

    Actually doesn't really work

    1. Android (and the other smartphone OSes had multitasking first - and my friend with an iPhone 3G was complaining how iOS 4 screwed up his phone with the multitasking feature)
    2. Android has folders too - and widgets
    3. Google mail is heavily integrated into Android, and you can forward your emails from other Google accounts to your main one to check all at once
    4. There are apps to do crap-digital zoom, a rather useless feature TBH
    5. Wallpaper setting is laughable, we Android users could do that since the first version of Android

Only thing I am jealous of is the iPhone keyboard, which still cannot be beaten by any Android keyboard replacements.

that is because the system will instruct the wifi to go to sleep mode to conserve power.

there are ppl complaining abt this problem especially when one is streaming radio over wifi.

A Better Keyboard seems to be close to Apple's implementation of soft keyboard. The predictive text is rather accurate too or at least the most accurate out there for now...

I've tried better keyboard before and it's still not as good as the iphone keyboard. It just looks like it, but it's not. I'm using SwiftKey keyboard now and it's pretty good. Still can't beat iphone keyboard though, I can type much better with my dad's iphone even though I dont use it very often

Bro, try SWYPE, pretty useful to me and fast...
Yup all you said in the list is quite true but one thing i envy of iOS is the quality of games. Android is catching up but looks like iOS is really ahead in terms of no. of quality games. Yup and Rooting/Jailbreak in Android is not like iOS, Rooting an Android completely changes your world, highly recommended for phones on older software.

How is any Android keyboard for Chinese, Japanese, or Korean? Can you switch quickly between western languages and CJK to mix in the same sentence?

I am sure there will be people who are appreciative of the size.
the bad news is the price will probably not be as competitive as we would love to imagine. maybe a little lower with telco packages..

But i would probably be looking for something slightly bigger than the ipad size.

Here's a comparison... The tab looks more enticing, with cameras,SDslot and call capability... Pricing wise, lets hope its subsidised heavily ...

Dang, where's the AMOLED screen? I think that's what makes their devices so attractive, take away the AMOLED and their devices are crap. This is especially so for the support of the phones...Just look at this, http://mobile.engadget.com/2010/09/0...touch-support/ developers are giving so much more support to their phones than Samsung themselves, they put hardware into their devices but don't give drivers for them.

Agreed on that this one, SuperAmoled is really their outstanding factor for SGS. But Amoled also is a battery hogger, LCD is still more energy saving.

Hmm, but I think support for SGS is much better now, judging by the no. of Custom Roms out there. Anyways, HTC and Moto also coming out with a Tablet so it will be interesting to see their products.

Still little support for the Spica, developers still have trouble with audio for Froyo and proper 3D drivers. It's so disappointing to learn how capable the hardware can be but you don't have proper drivers.

It's like having a full frame body with a DX 18-55 kit lens.

Let's keep this thread alive, shall we?

Anyone has any good apps to recommend? I'm looking for a decent music app with good audio quality (can be out of the box or tweaked using EQ, but do post some tips on what EQ settings you use)
