    Default 12.8 MP, 1 5DM1, 1 Original, 1 3rd party. 10 hours.

Hi to those full day shooter out there...

Do you think i can survive my 5DMark1 battery for 10 hours using 1 original battery and 1 3rd party battery.

First: (1)Gonna go for the first place which is my school. Some carnival going on i'll be dere to shoot some pic here and dere ~~~

After that: (2)The 2nd NDP rehearsal. At there, confirm going to spam quite a GB of picture out there...

    My camera: 5DMark1 + 70-200 F4L IS
Picture saving as: Raw + Large Fine.
    Both battery fully charge.
Running on bulb mode at fireworks display around 8-9pm +/-

Camera going on standby all the way through my school's carnival. Fully shut down on the time period from School >> Home(Get changed) >> NDP. While changing, will charge the battery used at (1).

Anything need to change in order for me to shoot for this 10 hour, from 10am to 8pm. Using only 2 battery?

    Thanks

i probably won't risk it. bulb mode does use quite a bit of battery juice as well. and if you do a fair of reviewing of pictures, do yourself a favour. get 1-2 more batteries. u won't want to be caught in the situation where u don't have enough batteries.

Bring your charger along if you can have a location to charge safely...

When in doubt, bring spare. 3rd party BP511As are dirt cheap.

Batt life also depends on the current condition of the batts -> do they hold a full charge, and what's their self-discharge rate like.

To save batt life, switch off LCD preview and activate only when super necessary.

Switch off all Cfns that sapp power like High ISO noise reduction, any highlight preserving Cfns etc.

    Use IS only when necessary.

Don't be itchy finger and everytime tap tap shutter button. Focuse manually when previewing a scene to decide if you want to shoot or not.

Switch off cam if there are long periods of non-shooting in between as leaving it on stand-by, sometime shutter button accidentally activated a bit cam powers back on again. For short periods, just leave it on standby.

    Change clothes slowly.

    CHEERS!

    What is CFns? O.o
And does not understand this part: "Batt life also depends on the current condition of the batts -> do they hold a full charge, and what's their self-discharge rate like."

    Thanks

I also plan to buy a few more(Maybe 2?) tomorrow(Friday) and do a full charge.
Any place you can recommend me to buy 3rd party 5dMark1 Battery?

P.s. Maybe bring a tripod for the NDP but not for the carnival.

    Custom Functions, see your manual.

Every battery will discharge slowly even when not used. That's normal but depends also on the quality. 3rd party batteries might not hold the charge that long due to faster self discharge.

Oh... Ok. Custom function. I'll remember that term. Haha

Do you recommend me to switch off and pull out the battery rather then putting it on standby? O.o

    Thanks
Know any place sells cheap 3rd party battery for my precious 5D?

It will not affect the self discharge of the battery at all. AFAIK, the power switch really switches off the camera, not just putting it into any standby. There is no component in the camera that requires constant power. Date, time and other settings are maintained by using another cell inside the camera. For some models it needs to be changed, for other models it's a rechargeable one that is charged by the main battery. Your manual will tell you more.

Don't need to worry so much until switch off and pull out battery.

    As Octarine kindly explained.

I only mention switch off if got long periods of delay is because put camera at side, or put in bag - anytime the shutter button can get accidentally pressed and cam switches on. A few friends have kenar their batt go flat because leave on standby and put in bag, and don't know that the shutter kenar tap tap tap.

Eastgear got 3rd party batts, as well as some other mass sellers in CS. Quite a few shops like Orient Photo also got IIRC.

leave the batt in the camera.... you will curse yourself when moments come along and .... oops... fumble around to load the batt into the cam ... BEFORE even turning it on .... while that moment comes and goes away.....

the 70-200 f4 is a heavier big zoom that will suck up more battery juice vs a kit zoom and if you're shooting all day (and into the evening fireworks becos' its NDP?) .... and constantly reviewing your images all day........ 2 batteries is not likely enough .... bring a spare 3rd battery....

you will waste too much time bringing your charger, looking for an outlet and waiting for the batt to charge

self-discharge of lithium ion (and ni-mh) batteries at idle is minimal if we're talking a period of 12-15hrs ....... only an issue if they're lying around idle for weeks/months

Yea... Totally agree. The time when it on, read your CF card and press on the focus button, the beautiful moment has gone...

And the firework thingy... Guess i have to bring along a 28mm or 50mm along... Thank you very much reminding me... Later go there shoot nothing. LOL

Will heed all advice. Bring additional 1 more battery and and leave the battery in the camera.

    Thanks

you wanna bet? AA batts dun last as long as a proprietary battery. May only even give you half the capacity.
