    As above

    so that the flash won't hit the object directly?

    is there such thing like special diffuser for special object?>

    external flash gives u more ability like bouncing the flash light from the ceiling then just purely head on on your subject.

    u can get a pop up diffuser for a start.

    U wont need ceiling always, u can bounce off surfaces of walls for directional lighting as well.

    But if its in a vast amt of space indoors with high ceiling, i recommend sth like the below

    You can actually DIY. I made one myself for my 580EX II, working pretty well.

    your pop up flash dun work. Cos u can only head on.

    You will need very powerful flash like 580exII... but if the ceiling is very high... then maybe also no use.

    Anyway i am still learning flash.

    i think an external flash is a worthwhile investment compared to the built-in one. go for it!
