Question How to conduct a Photography contest in a company?

    Hi All,

My organization is going to launch a Photography contest among employees, so I would like to know the following things.

1-Basic rules/criteria of the competition for taking pictures.
2-How to judge the picture if its copied from some website or so.
3-How to rate the picture as no one is expert photographer in our organization.

Any other suggestions or feedback? Many Thanks

    Regards,
    Naveed

My company also conduct annual photo competition.
We use similiar guide lines from this website to judge the winning photo

If you suspect that the photos are not taken by that person.
Just check the model of his/her camera against information in the jpeg file's advance property. The jpeg file should have the camera model, date and time the photo is taken.

Usually, request a smaller resolution soft copy for shortlisting first. Something like 600 by 400 would be fine. Ask for the high resolution one like 3000 by 2000 for the winning entries and request that the exif is intact. For film shooters, can request to view original negative. The judging can be done by poll. And as a matter of fact, a good photo is a good photo - you need not have technical skills to judge a good photo.
I say the lens is the soul of a camera. What about the body? Well, it's just the body...

As for Point 1, there is usually a theme given.
Also, you may like to state the restrictions, for example to what extend is photoshopping allowed? Simple curves and adjustments should be ok. Sometimes HDR is disallowed. B&W/Sepias should be ok too.

    Grey area during my time...

Father ( a veteran member of some photo club ) took the picture, daughter submit to student section..

what you want they can supply...camera, negative, exif etc. without problem.

When the prize is attractive, there is always someone wanting to cheat.

The rules are pretty standards. Check out some of the ongoing photography contests for ideas.

It is almost impossible to police the website. It should be incorporated as part of the rules that the participant has to declare the picture submitted is original and he has the rights to the pictures.

I would suggest defining a list of criteria with the breakdown of score for your panel of judges so that the judging will be consistent across the board. also is there a theme for the contest?

    theme 25%
    composition 25%
    technical 25%
    creativity 15%
    mood 10%

Any other suggestions or feedback? Many Thanks
